Heidelberg Catechism · Lord's Day 43
112. What is required in the ninth commandment?
Answer
That I bear false witness against no one, twist no one's words, be no gossip or slanderer, and join in condemning no one without a hearing or just cause. Rather, I must avoid, on pain of God's heavy wrath, all lying and deceit as the very works of the devil. In lawsuits and in all other dealings I must love the truth, speak and confess it honestly, and do what I can to defend and promote my neighbor's good name.
