Morgengebet — Erste Lesung

A slothful man is compared to a stone that is defiled; And every one will hiss him out in his disgrace. A slothful man is compared to the filth of a dunghill: Every man that takes it up will shake out his hand. A father has shame in having begotten an uninstructed son; And a foolish daughter is born to his loss. A prudent daughter will inherit a husband of her own; And she that brings shame is the grief of her father. She that is bold brings shame upon father and husband; And she will be despised of them both. Unseasonable discourse is as music in mourning; But stripes and correction are wisdom at every season. He that teaches a fool is as one that glues a potsherd together; Even as one that wakes a sleeper out of a deep sleep. He that discourseth to a fool is as one discoursing to a man that slumbereth; And at the end he will say, What is it? Weep for the dead, for light has failed him; And weep for a fool, for understanding has failed him: Weep more sweetly for the dead, because he has found rest; But the life of the fool is worse than death. Seven days are the days of mourning for the dead; But for a fool and an ungodly man, all the days of his life. Talk not much with a foolish man, And go not to one that has no understanding: Beware of him, lest you have trouble; And so you shall not be defiled in his onslaught: Turn away from him, and you will find rest; And so you shall not be wearied in his madness. What shall be heavier than lead? And what is the name thereof, but a fool? Sand, and salt, and a mass of iron, is easier to bear, Than a man without understanding. Timber girded and bound into a building will not be loosed with shaking: So a heart established in due season on well advised counsel will not be afraid. A heart settled upon a thoughtful understanding Is as an ornament of plaister on a polished wall. Pales set on a high place will not stand against the wind: So a fearful heart in the imagination of a fool will not stand against any fear. He that pricks the eye will make tears to fall; And he that pricks the heart makes it to show feeling. Whoso casts a stone at birds frays them away; And he that upbraids a friend will dissolve friendship. If you have drawn a sword against a friend, despair not; For there may be a returning. If you have opened your mouth against a friend, fear not; For there may be a reconciling; Except it be for upbraiding, and arrogance, and disclosing of a secret, and a treacherous blow: For these things every friend will flee. Gain trust with your neighbor in his poverty, That in his prosperity you may have gladness: Abide stedfast to him in the time of his affliction, That you may be heir with him in his inheritance. Before fire is the vapor and smoke of a furnace; So revilings before bloodshed. I will not be ashamed to shelter a friend; And I will not hide myself from his face: And if any evil happen to me because of him, Every one that hears it will beware of him. Who shall set a watch over my mouth, And a seal of shrewdness upon my lips, That I fall not from it, and that my tongue destroy me not?

Morgengebet — Zweite Lesung

Lukas 21

Ersah aber auf und schauete die Reichen, wie sie ihre Opfer einlegten in den Gotteskasten. Er sah aber auch eine arme Witwe, die legte zwei Scherflein ein. Und er sprach: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, diese arme Witwe hat mehr denn sie alle eingelegt. Denn diese alle haben aus ihrem Uberfluli eingelegt zu dem Opfer Gottes; sie aber hat von ihrer Armut alle ihre Nahrung, die sie hatte, eingelegt. Und da etliche sagten von dem Tempel, daß er geschmuckt ware von feinen Steinen und Kleinoden, sprach er: Es wird die Zeit kommen, in welcher des alles, das ihr sehet, nicht ein Stein auf dem andern gelassen wird, der nicht zerbrochen werde. Sie fragten ihn aber und sprachen: Meister, wann soli das werden? und welches ist das Zeichen, wann das geschehen wird? Er aber sprach: Sehet zu, lasset euch nicht verführen! Denn viele werden kommen in meinem Namen und sagen, ich sei es, und: Die Zeit ist herbeikommen. Folget ihnen nicht nach! Wenn ihr aber horen werdet von Kriegen und Emporungen, so entsetzet euch nicht. Denn solches muß zuvor geschehen; aber das Ende ist noch nicht so bald da. Da sprach erzu ihnen: Ein Volk wird sich erheben uber das andere und ein Reich uber das andere. Und werden geschehen grolie Erdbebungen hin und her, teure Zeit und Pestilenz. Auch werden Schrecknisse und grolie Zeichen vom Himmel geschehen. Aber vor diesem allem werden sie die Hande an euch legen und verfolgen und werden euch uberantworten in ihre Schulen und Gefangnisse und vor Konige und Fursten ziehen um meines Namens willen. Das wird euch aber widerfahren zu einem Zeugnis. So nehmet nun zu Herzen, daß ihr nicht sorget, wie ihr euch verantworten sollt. Denn ich will euch Mund und Weisheit geben, welcher nicht sollen widersprechen mogen noch widerstehen alle eure Widerwartigen. Ihr werdet aber uberantwortet werden von den Eltern, Brudern, Gefreundeten und Freunden; und sie werden euer etliche toten. Und ihr werdet gehasset sein von jedermann um meines Namens willen. Und ein Haar von eurem Hauptsoll nicht umkommen. Fasseteure Seelen mit Geduld! Wenn ihr aber sehen werdet Jerusalem belagert mit einem Heer, so merket, daß herbeikommen ist ihre Verwustung. Alsdann wer in Judaa ist, der fliehe auf das Gebirge; und wer mitten drinnen ist, der weiche heraus; und wer auf dem Lande ist, der komme nicht hinein. Denn das sind die Tage der Rache, daß erfullet werde alles, was geschrieben ist. Wehe aber den Schwangern und Saugerinnen in denselbigen Tagen! Denn es wird grofte Not auf Erden sein und ein Zorn uber dies Volk. Und sie werden fallen durch des Schwertes Scharfe und gefangen gefuhrt unter alle Volker; und Jerusalem wird zertreten werden von den Heiden, bis daß der Heiden Zeit erfullet wird. Und es werden Zeichen geschehen an der Sonne und Mond und Sternen; und auf Erden wird den Leuten bange sein und werden zagen; und das Meer und die Wasserwogen werden brausen. Und die Menschen werden verschmachten vor Furcht und vor Warten der Dinge, die kommen sollen auf Erden; denn auch der Himmel Krafte werden sich bewegen. Und alsdann werden sie sehen des Menschen Sohn kommen in der Wolke mit grafter Kraft und Herrlichkeit. Wenn aber dieses anfanget zu geschehen, so sehet auf und hebet eure Haupter auf, darum daß sich eure Erlosung nahet. Und er sagte ihnen ein Gleichnis: Sehet an den Feigenbaum und alle Baume! Wenn sie jetztausschlagen, so sehet ihr's an ihnen und merket, daß jetzt der Sommer nahe ist. Also auch ihr, wenn ihr dies alles sehet angehen, so wisset, daß das Reich Gottes nahe ist. Wahrlich, ich sage euch, dies Geschlecht wird nicht vergehen, bis daß es alles geschehe. Himmel und Erde werden vergehen, aber meine Worte vergehen nicht. Aber hütet euch, daß eure Herzen nicht beschweret werden mit Fressen und Saufen und mit Sorgen der Nahrung, und komme dieser Tag schnell uber euch; denn wie ein Fallstrick wird er kommen uber alle, die auf Erden wohnen. So seid nun wacker allezeit und betet, daß ihr würdig werden moget, zu entfliehen diesem allem, was geschehen soil, und zu stehen vor des Menschen Sohn. Und er lehrete des Tages im Tempel; des Nachts aber ging er aus und blieb uber Nacht am Olberge. Und alles Volk machte sich fruhe auf zu ihm, im Tempel ihn zu horen.

O Lord, Father and Master of my life, Abandon me not to their counsel: Suffer me not to fall by them. Who will set scourges over my thought, And a discipline of wisdom over my heart? That they spare me not for my ignorances, And my heart pass not by their sins: That my ignorances be not multiplied, And my sins abound not; And I will fall before my adversaries, And my enemy rejoice over me. O Lord, Father and God of my life, Give me not a proud look, And turn away concupiscense from me. Let not greediness and chambering overtake me; And give me not over to a shameless mind. Hear you⌃, my children, the discipline of the mouth; And he that keeps it will not be taken. The sinner will be overtaken in his lips; And the reviler and the proud man will stumble therein. Accustom not your mouth to an oath; And be not accustomed to the naming of the Holy One. For as a servant that is continually scourged will not lack a bruise, So he also that swears and names God continually will not be cleansed from sin. A man of many oaths will be filled with iniquity; And the scourge will not depart from his house: If he shall offend, his sin will be upon him; And if he disregard it, he has sinned doubly; And if he has sworn in vain, he will not be justified; For his house will be filled with calamities. There is a manner of speech that is clothed about with death: Let it not be found in the heritage of Jacob; For all these things will be far from the godly, And they will not wallow in sins. Accustom not your mouth to gross rudeness, For therein is the word of sin. Remember your father and your mother, For you sit in the midst of great men; That you be not forgetful before them, And become a fool by your custom; So will you wish that you had not been born, And curse the day of your nativity. A man that is accustomed to words of reproach Will not be corrected all the days of his life. Two sorts of men multiply sins, And the third will bring wrath: A hot mind, as a burning fire, will not be quenched till it be consumed: A fornicator in the body of his flesh will never cease till he has burned out the fire. All bread is sweet to a fornicator: He will not leave off till he die. A man that goes astray from his own bed, Saying in his heart, Who sees me? Darkness is round about me, and the walls hide me, And no man sees me; of whom am I afraid? The Most High will not remember my sins; —And the eyes of men are his terror, And he knows not that the eyes of the Lord are ten thousand times brighter than the sun, Beholding all the ways of men, And looking into secret places. All things were known to him or ever they were created; And in like manner also after they were perfected. This man will be punished in the streets of the city; And where he suspected not he will be taken. So also a wife that leaves her husband, And brings in an heir by a stranger. For first, she was disobedient in the law of the Most High; And secondly, she trespassed against her own husband; And thirdly, she played the adulteress in whoredom, And brought in children by a stranger. She shall be brought out into the congregation; And upon her children will there be visitation. Her children will not spread into roots, And her branches will bear no fruit. She will leave her memory for a curse; And her reproach will not be blotted out. And those who are left behind will know that there is nothing better than the fear of the Lord, And nothing sweeter than to take heed to the commandments of the Lord.

1. Thessalonicher 1

Paulus und Silvanus und Timotheus: der Gemeinde zu Thessalonich, in Gott dem Vater und dem Herrn Jesu Christo. Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem Herrn Jesu Christo! Wir danken Gott allezeit fur euch alle und gedenken euer in unserm Gebet ohne Unterlaft. Und denken an euer Werk im Glauben und an eure Arbeit in der Liebe und an eure Geduld in der Hoffnung, welche ist unser Herr Jesus Christus vor Gott und unserm Vater. Denn, liebe Bruder, von Gott geliebet, wir wissen, wie ihr auserwahlet seid, daß unser Evangelium ist bei euch gewesen nicht allein im Wort, sondern beide, in der Kraft und in dem Heiligen Geist und in grafter Gewiftheit; wie ihr wisset, welcherlei wir gewesen sind unter euch um euretwillen. Und ihr seid unsere Nachfolger worden und des Herrn und habt das Wort aufgenommen unter vielen Trubsalen mit Freuden im Heiligen Geist, also daß ihr worden seid ein Vorbild alien Glaubigen in Mazedonien und Achaja. Denn von euch ist auserschollen das Wort des Herrn nicht allein in Mazedonien und Achaja, sondern an alien Orten ist auch euer Glaube an Gott ausgebrochen, also daß nicht not ist, euch etwas zu sagen. Denn sie selbst verkundigen von euch, was fur einen Eingang wir zu euch gehabt haben, und wie ihr bekehret seid zu Gott von den Abgottern, zu dienen dem lebendigen und wahren Gott und zu warten seines Sohns vom Himmel, welchen er auferwecket hat von den Toten, Jesum, der uns von dem zukünftigen Zorn erloset hat.
