Then Daniel took pitch, and fat, and hair, and did seethe them together, and made lumps thereof: this he put in the dragon’s mouth, so the dragon did eat and burst in sunder: and Daniel said, Behold, these are the gods you⌃ worship. When they of Babylon heard that, they took great indignation, and conspired against the king, saying, The king is become a Jew, and he has pulled down Bel, and slain the dragon, and put the priests to the sword. So they came to the king, and said, Deliver us Daniel, or else we will destroy you and your house. Now when the king saw that they pressed him sore, being constrained, the king delivered Daniel to them: who cast him into the lion’s den: where he was six days. And in the den there were seven lions, and they had given them every day two carcases, and two sheep: which then were not given to them, to the intent they might devour Daniel. Now there was in Jewry the prophet Habakkuk, who had made pottage, and had broken bread into a bowl, and was going into the field, for to bring it to the reapers. But the angel of the Lord said to Habakkuk, Go carry the dinner that you have into Babylon to Daniel, in the lions’ den. And Habakkuk said, Lord, I never saw Babylon; neither do I know where the den is. Then the angel of the Lord took him by the crown, and lifted him up by the hair of his head, and with the blast of his breath set him in Babylon over the den. And Habakkuk cried, saying, O Daniel, Daniel, take the dinner which God has sent you. And Daniel said, You have remembered me, O God: neither have you forsaken those who love you. So Daniel arose, and did eat: and the angel of God set Habakkuk in his own place again immediately. Upon the seventh day the king came to bewail Daniel: and when he came to the den, he looked in, and, behold, Daniel was sitting. Then cried the king with a loud voice, saying, Great are you, O Lord, you God of Daniel, and there is none other beside you. And he drew him out, and cast those that were the cause of his destruction into the den: and they were devoured in a moment before his face.
Evangelium
Danach zog Jesus umher in Galilaa denn er wollte nicht in Judaa umherziehen, darum daß ihm die Juden nach dem Leben stelleten. Es war aber nahe der Juden Fest, der Laubrust. Da sprachen seine Bruder zu ihm: Mache dich auf von dannen und gehe nach Judaa, auf daß auch deine Junger sehen die Werke, die du tust. Niemand tut etwas im Verborgenen und will doch frei offenbar sein. Tust du solches, so offenbare dich vor der Welt. Denn auch seine Bruder glaubten nicht an ihn. Da spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Zeit ist noch nicht hier; eure Zeit aber ist allewege. Die Welt kann euch nicht hassen; mich aber hasset sie; denn ich zeuge von ihr, daß ihre Werke bose sind. Gehet ihr hinauf auf dieses Fest. Ich will noch nicht hinaufgehen auf dieses Fest; denn meine Zeit ist noch nicht erfullet. Da er aber das zu ihnen gesagt, blieb er in Galilaa. Als aber seine Bruder waren hinaufgegangen, da ging erauch hinauf zu dem Fest, nicht offenbarlich, sondern gleich heimlich. Da suchten ihn die Juden am Fest und sprachen: Wo ist der? Und eswarein graft Gemurmel von ihm unter dem Volk. Etliche sprachen: Er ist, fromm. Die andern aber sprachen: Nein, sondern er verfuhret das Volk. Niemand aber redete frei von ihm urn der Furcht willen vor den Juden.
