A wise judge will instruct his people; And the government of a man of understanding will be well ordered. As is the judge of his people, so are his ministers; And as is the ruler of the city, such are all those who dwell therein. An uninstructed king will destroy his people; And a city will be established through the understanding of the powerful. In the hand of the Lord is the authority of the earth; And in due time he will raise up over it one that is profitable. In the hand of the Lord is the prosperity of a man; And upon the person of the scribe will he lay his honor. Be not angry with your neighbor for every wrong; And do nothing by works of violence. Pride is hateful before the Lord and before men; And in the judgement of both will unrighteousness err. Sovereignty is transferred from nation to nation, Because of iniquities, and deeds of violence, and greed of money. Why is earth and ashes proud? Because in his life he has cast away his bowels. It is a long disease; the physician mocketh: And he is a king today, and tomorrow he will die. For when a man is dead, He will inherit creeping things, and beasts, and worms. It is the beginning of pride when a man departs from the Lord; And his heart is departed from him that made him. For the beginning of pride is sin; And he that keeps it will pour forth abomination. For this cause the Lord brought upon them strange calamities, And overthrew them utterly. The Lord cast down the thrones of rulers, And set the meek in their stead. The Lord plucked up the roots of nations, And planted the lowly in their stead. The Lord overthrew the lands of nations, And destroyed them to the foundations of the earth. He took some of them away, and destroyed them, And made their memorial to cease from the earth. Pride has not been created for men, Nor wrathful anger for the offspring of women. What manner of seed has honor? the seed of man. What manner of seed has honor? those who fear the Lord. What manner of seed has no honor? the seed of man. What manner of seed has no honor? those who transgress the commandments. In the midst of kindred he that rules them has honor; And in the eyes of the Lord those who fear him. The rich man, and the honorable, and the poor, Their glorying is the fear of the Lord. It is not right to dishonor a poor man that has understanding; And it is not fitting to glorify a man that is a sinner. The great man, and the judge, and the mighty man, will be glorified; And there is not one of them greater than he that fears the Lord. Free men will minister to a wise servant; And a man that has knowledge will not murmur thereat. Be not over wise in doing your work; And glorify not yourself in the time of your distress. Better is he that labores, and abounds in all things, Than he that glorifieth himself, and lacketh bread. My son, glorify your soul in meekness, And give it honor according to the worthiness thereof. Who will justify him that sins against his own soul? And who will glorify him that dishonors his own life? A poor man is glorified for his knowledge; And a rich man is glorified for his riches. But he that is glorified in poverty, how much more in riches? And he that is inglorious in riches, how much more in poverty?

Lucas 15

Y se llegaban a él todos los publicanos, y pecadores a oírle. Y murmuraban los Fariseos y los escribas, diciendo: Este a los pecadores recibe, y con ellos come. Y él les propuso esta parábola, diciendo: ¿Qué hombre de vosotros, teniendo cien ovejas, si perdiere una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en el desierto, y va a buscar la que se perdió, hasta que la halle? Y hallada, la pone sobre sus hombros gozoso; Y viniendo a casa, junta a sus amigos, y a sus vecinos, diciéndoles: Dádme el parabién; porque he hallado mi oveja que se había perdido. Os digo, que así habrá más gozo en el cielo sobre un pecador que se arrepiente, que sobre noventa y nueve justos, que no han menester arrepentirse. ¶ ¿O qué mujer que tiene diez dracmas, si perdiere la una dracma, no enciende luz, y barre la casa, y busca con diligencia, hasta hallarla? Y cuando la hubiere hallado, junta sus amigas, y sus vecinas, diciendo: Dádme el parabién; porque he hallado la dracma que había perdido. Así os digo, que hay gozo delante de los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente. ¶ También dijo: Un hombre tenía dos hijos; Y el más mozo de ellos dijo a su padre: Padre, dame la parte de la hacienda que me pertenece. Y él les repartió su hacienda. Y después de no muchos días, juntándolo todo el hijo más mozo, se partió lejos, a una tierra apartada; y allí desperdició su hacienda viviendo perdidamente. Y después que lo hubo todo gastado, vino una grande hambre en aquella tierra; y comenzóle a faltar. Y fue, y se llegó a uno de los ciudadanos de aquella tierra, el cual le envió a sus campos, para que apacentase los puercos. Y deseaba henchir su vientre de las algarrobas que comían los puercos; mas nadie se las daba. Y volviendo en sí, dijo: ¡Cuántos jornaleros en casa de mi padre tienen abundancia de pan, y yo aquí perezco de hambre! Me levantaré, e iré a mi padre, y le diré: Padre, pecado he contra el cielo, y contra ti: Ya no soy digno de ser llamado tu hijo: hazme como a uno de tus jornaleros. Y levantándose, vino a su padre. Y como aun estuviese lejos, le vio su padre, y fue movido a misericordia; y corriendo a él, se derribó sobre su cuello, y le besó. Y el hijo le dijo: Padre, pecado he contra el cielo, y contra ti: ya no soy digno de ser llamado tu hijo. Mas el padre dijo a sus siervos: Sacád el principal vestido, y vestídle; y ponéd anillo en su mano, y zapatos en sus pies; Y traéd el becerro grueso, y matádle; y comamos, y hagamos banquete; Porque éste mi hijo muerto era, y ha revivido: se había perdido, y es hallado. Y comenzaron a hacer banquete. Y su hijo el más viejo estaba en el campo, el cual como vino, y llegó cerca de casa, oyó la sinfonía y las danzas; Y llamando a uno de los siervos, le preguntó qué era aquello. Y él le dijo: Tu hermano es venido; y tu padre ha muerto el becerro grueso, por haberle recibido salvo. Entonces él se enojó, y no quería entrar. El padre entonces saliendo, le rogaba que entrase. Mas él respondiendo, dijo a su padre: He aquí, tantos años ha que te sirvo, que nunca he traspasado tu mandamiento, y nunca me has dado un cabrito para que haga banquete con mis amigos; Mas después que vino éste tu hijo, que ha engullido tu hacienda con rameras, le has matado el becerro grueso. El entonces le dijo: Hijo, tú siempre estás conmigo, y todas mis cosas son tuyas; Mas hacer banquete y holgarnos era menester; porque éste tu hermano muerto era, y revivió: se había perdido, y es hallado.

The wisdom of the lowly will lift up his head, And make him to sit in the midst of great men. Commend not a man for his beauty; And abhor not a man for his outward appearance. The bee is little among such as fly; And her fruit is the chief of sweetmeats. Glory not in the putting on of raiment, And exalt not yourself in the day of honor; For the works of the Lord are wonderful, And his works are hidden among men. Many kings have sat down upon the ground; And one that was never thought of has worn a diadem. Many mighty men have been greatly disgraced; And men of renown have been delivered into other men’s hands. Blame not before you have examined: Understand first, and then rebuke. Answer not before you have heard; And interrupt not in the midst of speech. Strive not in a matter that concerns you not; And where sinners judge, sit not you with them. My son, be not busy about many matters: For if you meddle much, you will not be unpunished; And if you pursue, you will not overtake; And you will not escape by fleeing. There is one that toileth, and labores, and makes haste, And is so much the more behind. There is one that is sluggish, and has need of help, Lacking in strength, and that abounds in poverty; And the eyes of the Lord looked upon him for good, And he set him up from his low estate, And lifted up his head; And many marveled at him. Good things and evil, life and death, Poverty and riches, are from the Lord. The gift of the Lord remains with the godly, And his good pleasure will prosper forever. There is that waxes rich by his wariness and pinching, And this is the portion of his reward: When he says, I have found rest, And now will I eat of my goods; Yet he knows not what time will pass, And he will leave them to others, and die. Be stedfast in your covenant, and be conversant therein, And wax old in your work. Marvel not at the works of a sinner; But trust the Lord, and abide in your labor: For it is an easy thing in the sight of the Lord swiftly on the sudden to make a poor man rich. The blessing of the Lord is in the reward of the godly; And in an hour that comes swiftly he makes his blessing to flourish. Say not, What use is there of me? And what from henceforth will my good things be? Say not, I have sufficient, And from henceforth what harm will happen to me? In the day of good things there is a forgetfulness of evil things; And in the day of evil things a man will not remember things that are good. For it is an easy thing in the sight of the Lord To reward a man in the day of death according to his ways. The affliction of an hour causes forgetfulness of delight; And in the last end of a man is the revelation of his deeds. Call no man blessed before his death; And a man will be known in his children. Bring not every man into your house; For many are the plots of the deceitful man. As a decoy partridge in a cage, so is the heart of a proud man; And as one that is a spy, he looks upon your falling. For he lies in wait to turn things that are good into evil; And in things that are praiseworthy he will lay blame. From a spark of fire a heap of many coals is kindled; And a sinful man lies in wait for blood. Take heed of an evil-doer, for he contriveth wicked things; Lest haply he bring upon you blame forever. Receive a stranger into your house, and he will distract you with brawls, And estrange you from your own.

Resta, hermanos, que os regocijéis en el Señor. Escribiros las mismas cosas, a mí ciertamente no me es gravoso, mas para vosotros es seguro. Guardáos de los perros, guardáos de los malos obreros, guardáos de la concisión. Porque nosotros somos la circuncisión, los que servimos en espíritu a Dios, y nos gloriamos en Cristo Jesús, no teniendo confianza en la carne. Aunque yo tengo también de qué confiar en la carne. Si a alguno le parece que tiene de qué confiar en la carne, yo más que nadie: Circuncidado al octavo día, del linaje de Israel, de la tribu de Benjamín, Hebreo de Hebreos; en cuanto a la ley, Fariseo; En cuanto a zelo, perseguidor de la iglesia; en cuanto a la justicia que es en la ley, de vida irreprensible. Mas aquellas cosas que me eran por ganancia, las tuve por pérdida por amor de Cristo. Y aun más, que ciertamente todas las cosas tengo por pérdida por la excelencia del conocimiento de Cristo Jesús Señor mío; por amor del cual lo he perdido todo, y lo tengo por estiércol por ganar a Cristo, Y ser hallado en él, no teniendo mi propia justicia, que es de la ley, sino la que es por medio de la fe de Cristo, la justicia de Dios por fe: Por conocerle a él, y a la virtud de su resurrección, y la comunión de sus padecimientos, siendo configurado a su muerte: Si en alguna manera llegase a la resurrección de los muertos. No que ya haya alcanzado, ni que ya sea perfecto; mas sigo adelante por si pueda echar mano de aquello, por lo cual Cristo también echó mano de mí. Hermanos no pienso que yo mismo lo haya alcanzado; empero una cosa hago, y es, que olvidando ciertamente lo que queda atrás, mas extendiéndome a lo que está delante, Me apresuro hacia el blanco, por el premio de la vocación celestial de Dios en Cristo Jesús. Así que todos los que somos perfectos, tengamos estos mismos sentimientos; y si en alguna cosa los tenéis diferentes, esto también os revelará Dios. Empero a lo que hemos ya llegado, vamos por la misma regla, y sintamos una misma cosa. ¶ Hermanos, sed juntamente imitadores de mí, y mirád los que anduvieren así, como nos tenéis a nosotros por dechado. (Porque muchos andan, de los cuales os he dicho muchas veces, y ahora también lo digo, aun llorando, que enemigos son de la cruz de Cristo: Cuyo fin es la perdición: cuyo dios es el vientre, y su gloria es en la confusión de ellos, que piensan solo en lo terreno.) ¶ Mas nuestra vivienda es en los cielos, de donde también esperamos el Salvador, al Señor Jesu Cristo; El cual transformará el cuerpo de nuestra bajeza, para que sea hecho semejante a su cuerpo glorificado, según el poder eficiente por el cual puede también sujetar a sí todas las cosas.
