The pride of the height is the firmament in its clearness, The appearance of heaven, in the spectacle of its glory. The sun when he appears, bringing tidings as he goes forth, Is a marvelous instrument, the work of the Most High: At his noon he dries up the country, And who shall stand against his burning heat? A man blowing a furnace is in works of heat, But the sun three times more, burning up the mountains: Breathing out fiery vapours, And sending forth bright beams, he dims the eyes. Great is the Lord that made him; And at his word he hastens his course. The moon also is in all things for her season, For a declaration of times, and a sign of the world. From the moon is the sign of the feast day; A light that waneth when she is come to the full. The month is called after her name, Increasing wonderfully in her changing; An instrument of the army on high, Shining forth in the firmament of heaven; The beauty of heaven, the glory of the stars, An ornament giving light in the highest places of the Lord. At the word of the Holy One they will stand in due order, And they will not faint in their watches. Look upon the rainbow, and praise him that made it; Exceeding beautiful in the brightness thereof. It encircles the heaven round about with a circle of glory; The hands of the Most High have stretched it. By his commandment he makes the snow to fall apace, And sends swiftly the lightnings of his judgement. By reason thereof the treasure-houses are opened; And clouds fly forth as fowls. By his mighty power he makes strong the clouds, And the hailstones are broken small: And at his appearing the mountains will be shaken, And at his will the south wind will blow. The voice of his thunder makes the earth to travail; So does the northern storm and the whirlwind: As birds flying down he sprinkleth the snow; And as the lighting of the locust is the falling down thereof: The eye will marvel at the beauty of its whiteness, And the heart will be astonished at the raining of it. The hoar frost also he pours on the earth as salt; And when it is congealed, it is as points of thorns. The cold north wind shall blow, And the ice shall be congealed on the water: It shall lodge upon every gathering together of water, And the water shall put on as it were a breastplate. It shall devour the mountains, and burn up the wilderness, And consume the green herb as fire. A mist coming speedily is the healing of all things; A dew coming after heat shall bring cheerfulness. By his counsel he has stilled the deep, And planted islands therein. They that sail on the sea tell of the danger thereof; And when we hear it with our ears, we marvel. Therein be also those strange and wondrous works, Variety of all that has life, the race of sea-monsters. By reason of him his end has success, And by his word all things consist. We may say many things, yet shall we not attain; And the sum of our words is, He is all. How shall we have strength to glorify him? For he is himself the great one above all his works. The Lord is terrible and exceeding great; And marvelous is his power. When you⌃ glorify the Lord, exalt him as much as you⌃ can; For even yet will he exceed: And when you⌃ exalt him, put forth your full strength: Be not weary; for you⌃ will never attain. Who has seen him, that he may declare him? And who shall magnify him as he is? Many things are hidden greater than these; For we have seen but a few of his works. For the Lord made all things; And to the godly gave he wisdom.

Y pasadas estas cosas, andaba Jesús en Galilea; que no quería andar en Judea, porque los Judíos procuraban de matarle. Y estaba cerca la fiesta de los Judíos, llamada, de las cabañas. Dijéronle pues sus hermanos: Pásate de aquí, y vete a Judea, para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces; Porque ninguno que procura ser insigne, hace algo en oculto. Si estas cosas haces, manifiéstate al mundo. Porque ni aun sus hermanos creían en él. Díceles entonces Jesús: Mi tiempo aun no es venido; mas vuestro tiempo siempre es presto. No puede el mundo aborreceros a vosotros; mas a mí me aborrece, porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus obras son malas. Vosotros subíd a esta fiesta: yo no subo aun a esta fiesta; porque mi tiempo no es aun cumplido. Y habiéndoles dicho esto, se quedó en Galilea. Mas como sus hermanos hubieron subido, entonces él también subió a la fiesta, no manifiestamente, mas como en secreto. Entonces los Judíos le buscaban en la fiesta, y decían: ¿Dónde está aquel? Y había grande murmullo acerca de él entre el pueblo; porque unos decían: Buen hombre es; y otros decían: No, antes engaña al pueblo. Mas ninguno hablaba abiertamente de él, por miedo de los Judíos, Y al medio de la fiesta, subió Jesús al templo, y enseñaba. Y maravillábanse los Judíos, diciendo: ¿Cómo sabe este hombre letras, no habiendo aprendido? Respondióles Jesús, y dijo: Mi doctrina no es mía, sino de el que me envió. El que quisiere hacer su voluntad, conocerá de la doctrina si es de Dios, o si yo hablo de mí mismo. El que habla de sí mismo, gloria propia busca; mas el que busca la gloria del que le envió, éste es verdadero, y no hay en él injusticia. ¶ ¿No os dio Moisés la ley; y sin embargo ninguno de vosotros guarda la ley? ¿Por qué me procuráis matar? Respondió el pueblo, y dijo: Demonio tienes: ¿quién te procura matar? Jesús respondió, y les dijo: Una obra hice, y vosotros todos os maravilláis. Cierto que Moisés os dio la circuncisión, (no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres,) y en sábado circuncidáis al hombre. Si recibe el hombre la circuncisión en sábado, para que la ley de Moisés no sea quebrantada, ¿os enojáis conmigo porque en sábado hice sano todo un hombre? No juzguéis según lo que parece, mas juzgád justo juicio. ¶ Decían entonces unos de los de Jerusalem: ¿No es éste al que buscan para matarle? Y, he aquí, habla públicamente, y no le dicen nada: ¿Han entendido ciertamente los príncipes, que éste es verdaderamente el Cristo? Mas éste, nosotros sabemos de donde es; empero cuando viniere el Cristo, nadie sabrá de donde sea. Entonces clamaba Jesús en el templo enseñando, y diciendo: Y a mí me conocéis, y sabéis de donde soy; y no he venido de mí mismo; mas el que me envió es verdadero, al cual vosotros ignoráis. Empero yo le conozco; porque de él soy, y él me envió. Entonces procuraban prenderle; mas ninguno metió sobre él la mano, porque aun no había venido su hora. Y del pueblo, muchos creyeron en él, y decían: ¿El Cristo cuándo viniere, hará más milagros que los que éste ha hecho? ¶ Los Fariseos oyeron al pueblo que murmuraba de él estas cosas; y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los Fariseos enviaron esbirros que le prendiesen. Y Jesús les dijo: Aun un poco de tiempo estoy con vosotros, y luego voy al que me envió. Me buscaréis, y no me hallaréis; y donde yo estoy, vosotros no podéis venir. Entonces los Judíos dijeron entre sí: ¿Dónde se ha de ir éste que no le hallarémos? ¿Irá a los dispersos entre los Gentiles, y enseñará a los Gentiles? ¿Qué dicho es éste que dijo: Me buscaréis, y no me hallaréis; y donde yo estoy, vosotros no podéis venir? En el postrer día, día grande de la fiesta, Jesús se ponía en pie, y clamaba, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, venga a mí, y beba. El que cree en mí, como dice la Escritura, de su vientre correrán ríos de agua viva. Y esto dijo del Espíritu, que habían de recibir los que creyesen en él; porque aun no había sido dado el Espíritu Santo, porque Jesús aun no había sido glorificado. Entonces muchos del pueblo oyendo este dicho, decían: Verdaderamente éste es el Profeta. Otros decían: Este es el Cristo. Algunos empero decían: ¿De Galilea ha de venir el Cristo? ¿No dice la Escritura: Que de la simiente de David, y de la aldea de Belén, de donde era David, vendrá el Cristo? Así que había disensión entre el pueblo a causa de él. Y algunos de ellos le querían prender; mas ninguno metió sobre él las manos. Y los esbirros vinieron a los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y a los Fariseos; y ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis? Los esbirros respondieron: Nunca así ha hablado hombre, como este hombre habla. Entonces los Fariseos les respondieron: ¿Sois también vosotros engañados? ¿Ha creído en él alguno de los príncipes, o de los Fariseos? Mas esta gente que no sabe la ley, malditos son. Díceles Nicodemo, el que vino a Jesús de noche, el cual era uno de ellos: ¿Juzga nuestra ley a hombre alguno, si primero no oyere de él, y entendiere lo que ha hecho? Respondieron, y dijéronle: ¿Eres tú también Galileo? Escudriña, y ve, que de Galilea nunca se levantó profeta. Y volviéronse cada uno a su casa.

Let us now praise famous men, And our fathers that became the father of us. The Lord manifested in them great glory, Even his mighty power from the beginning. Such as did bear rule in their kingdoms, And were men renowned for their power, Giving counsel by their understanding, Such as have brought tidings in prophecies: Leaders of the people by their counsels, And by their understanding men of learning for the people; Wise were their words in their instruction: Such as sought out musical tunes, And set forth verses in writing: Rich men furnished with ability, Living peaceably in their habitations: All these were honored in their generations, And were a glory in their days. There be of them, that have left a name behind them, To declare their praises. And some there be, which have no memorial; Who are perished as though they had not been, And are become as though they had not been born; And their children after them. But these were men of mercy, Whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten. With their seed shall remain continually a good inheritance; Their children are within the covenants. Their seed stands fast, And their children for their sakes. Their seed shall remain forever, And their glory shall not be blotted out. Their bodies were buried in peace, And their name lives to all generations. Peoples will declare their wisdom, And the congregation tells out their praise. Enoch pleased the Lord, and was translated, Being an example of repentance to all generations. Noah was found perfect and righteous; In the season of wrath he was taken in exchange for the world; Therefore was there left a remnant to the earth, When the flood came. Everlasting covenants were made with him, That all flesh should no more be blotted out by a flood. Abraham was a great father of a multitude of nations; And there was none found like him in glory; Who kept the law of the Most High, And was taken into covenant with him: In his flesh he established the covenant; And when he was proved, he was found faithful. Therefore he assured him by an oath, That the nations should be blessed in his seed; That he would multiply him as the dust of the earth, And exalt his seed as the stars, And cause them to inherit from sea to sea, And from the River to the utmost part of the earth. In Isaac also did he establish likewise, for Abraham his father’s sake, The blessing of all men, and the covenant: And he made it rest upon the head of Jacob; He acknowledged him in his blessings, And gave to him by inheritance, And divided his portions; Among twelve tribes did he part them.

1 Timoteo 4

Empero el Espíritu dice expresamente, que en los postreros tiempos algunos apostatarán de la fe, escuchando a espíritus engañadores, y a doctrinas de demonios, Que con hipocresía hablarán mentira, teniendo cauterizada la conciencia: Que prohibirán casarse, y obligarán a abstenerse los hombres de las viandas que Dios creó para que con hacimiento de gracias participasen de ellas los que creen, y conocen la verdad. Porque todo lo que Dios creó, es bueno, y nada hay que desechar, tomándose con hacimiento de gracias; Porque por la palabra de Dios, y por la oración es santificado. Si esto propusieres a los hermanos, serás buen ministro de Jesu Cristo, criado en las palabras de la fe, y de la buena doctrina, la cual has alcanzado. Mas las fábulas profanas y de viejas desecha, y ejercítate para la piedad. Porque el ejercicio corporal para poco es provechoso; mas la piedad a todo aprovecha; porque tiene la promesa de esta vida presente, y de la venidera. Palabra fiel es esta, y digna de ser recibida de todos. Que por esto aun trabajamos y somos maldichos, porque esperamos en el Dios viviente, el cual es Salvador de todos los hombres, y mayormente de los que creen. Esto manda, y enseña. Ninguno tenga en poco tu juventud; mas sé ejemplo de los fieles en palabra, en conversación, en caridad, en espíritu, en fe, en pureza. Entre tanto que vengo, ocúpate en leer, en exhortar, en enseñar. No menosprecies el don que está en ti, que te es dado para profetizar, con la imposición de las manos de los presbíteros. Medita estas cosas; ocúpate cabalmente en ellas; de manera que tu aprovechamiento sea manifiesto a todos. Ten cuidado de ti mismo y de la doctrina: persiste en esto; porque si así lo hicieres, a ti mismo salvarás, y a los que te oyen.
