Oración matutina — primera lectura

Love righteousness, you⌃ that be judges of the earth, Think you⌃ of the Lord with a good mind, And in singleness of heart seek you⌃ him; Because he is found of those who tempt him not, And is manifested to those who do not distrust him. For crooked thoughts separate from God; And the supreme Power, when it is brought to the proof, puts to confusion the foolish: Because wisdom will not enter into a soul that deviseth evil, Nor dwell in a body that is held in pledge by sin. For a holy spirit of discipline will flee deceit. And will start away from thoughts that are without understanding, And will be put to confusion when unrighteousness has come in. For wisdom is a spirit that loves man, And she will not hold a blasphemer guiltless for his lips; Because God bears witness of his reins, And is a true overseer of his heart, And a hearer of his tongue: Because the spirit of the Lord has filled the world, And that which holds all things together has knowledge of every voice. Therefore no man that utters unrighteous things will be unseen; Neither will Justice, when it convicts, pass him by. For in the midst of his counsels the ungodly will be searched out; And the sound of his words will come to the Lord To bring to conviction his lawless deeds: Because there is an ear of jealousy that listens to all things, And the noise of murmurings is not hid. Beware then of unprofitable murmuring, And refrain your tongue from backbiting; Because no secret utterance will go on its way void, And a mouth that belies destroys a soul. Court not death in the error of your life; Neither draw upon yourselves destruction by the works of your hands: Because God made not death; Neither delights he when the living perish: For he created all things that they might have being: And the generative powers of the world are healthsome, And there is no poison of destruction in them: Nor has Hades royal dominion upon earth, For righteousness is immortal: But ungodly men by their hands and their words called death to them: Deeming him a friend they consumed away, And they made a covenant with him, Because they are worthy to be of his portion.
Oración matutina — segunda lectura
Y como pasó el sábado, María Magdalena, y María madre de Santiago, y Salomé, compraron drogas aromáticas, para venir a ungirle. Y muy de mañana, el primer día de la semana, vienen al sepulcro, ya salido el sol. Y decían entre sí: ¿Quién nos revolverá la piedra de la puerta del sepulcro? Y como miraron, ven la piedra revuelta; porque era grande. Y entradas en el sepulcro, vieron un mancebo sentado a la mano derecha cubierto de una ropa larga y blanca; y se espantaron. Mas él les dice: No tengáis miedo: buscáis a Jesús Nazareno, que fue crucificado: resucitado ha, no está aquí: he aquí el lugar donde le pusieron. Mas id, decíd a sus discípulos y a Pedro, que él va antes que vosotros a Galilea: allí le veréis, como os dijo. Y ellas se fueron huyendo prestamente del sepulcro; porque las había tomado temblor y espanto; ni decían nada a nadie; porque tenían miedo. Mas como Jesús resucitó por la mañana, el primer día de la semana, apareció primeramente a María Magdalena, de la cual había echado siete demonios. Y yendo ella, lo hizo saber a los que habían estado con él, que estaban tristes y llorando. Y ellos como oyeron que vivía, y que había sido visto de ella, no lo creyeron. Mas después apareció en otra forma a dos de ellos que iban caminando, yendo al campo. Y ellos fueron, y lo hicieron saber a los otros; mas ni aun a ellos creyeron. ¶ Posteriormente se apareció a los once, estando sentados a la mesa; y les zahirió su incredulidad y la dureza de corazón, que no hubiesen creído a los que le habían visto resucitado. Y les dijo: Id por todo el mundo, y predicád el evangelio a toda criatura. El que creyere, y fuere bautizado, será salvo; mas el que no creyere, será condenado. Y estas señales seguirán a los que creyeren: En mi nombre echarán fuera demonios: hablarán nuevas lenguas: Alzarán serpientes; y si bebieren cosa mortífera, no les dañará: sobre los enfermos pondrán las manos, y sanarán. Y el Señor, después que les habló, fue recibido arriba en el cielo, y se asentó a la diestra de Dios. Y ellos, saliendo, predicaron en todas partes, obrando con ellos el Señor, y confirmando la palabra con las señales que se seguían. Amén.

For they said within themselves, reasoning not aright, Short and sorrowful is our life; And there is no healing when a man comes to his end, And none was ever known that gave release from Hades. Because by mere chance were we born, And hereafter we will be as though we had never been: Because the breath in our nostrils is smoke, And while our heart beats reason is a spark, Which being extinguished, the body will be turned into ashes, And the spirit will be dispersed as thin air; And our name will be forgotten in time, And no man will remember our works; And our life will pass away as the traces of a cloud, And will be scattered as is a mist, When it is chased by the beams of the sun, And overcome by the heat thereof. For our alloted time is the passing of a shadow, And our end retreats not; Because it is fast sealed, and none turns it back. Come therefore and let us enjoy the good things that now are; And let us use the creation with all our soul as youth’s possession. Let us fill ourselves with costly wine and perfumes; And let no flower of spring pass us by: Let us crown ourselves with rosebuds, before they be withered: Let none of us go without his share in our proud revelry: Everywhere let us leave tokens of our mirth: Because this is our portion, and our lot is this. Let us oppress the righteous poor; Let us not spare the widow, Nor reverence the hairs of the old man gray for length of years. But let our strength be to us a law of righteousness; For that which is weak is found to be of no service. But let us lie in wait for the righteous man, Because he is of disservice to us, And is contrary to our works, And upbraids us with sins against the law, And lays to our charge sins against our discipline. He professes to have knowledge of God, And names himself servant of the Lord. He became to us a reproof of our thoughts. He is grievous to us even to behold, Because his life is unlike other men’s, And his paths are of strange fashion. We were accounted of him as worthless metal, And he abstains from our ways as from uncleannesses. The latter end of the righteous he calls happy; And he vaunts that God is his father. Let us see if his words be true, And let us try what shall befall in the ending of his life. For if the righteous man is God’s son, he will uphold him, And he will deliver him out of the hand of his adversaries. With outrage and torture let us put him to the test, That we may learn his gentleness, And may prove his patience under wrong. Let us condemn him to a shameful death; For he will be visited according to his words. Thus reasoned they, and they were led astray; For their wickedness blinded them, And they knew not the mysteries of God, Neither hoped they for wages of holiness, Nor did they judge that there is a prize for blameless souls. Because God created man for incorruption, And made him an image of his own proper being; But by the envy of the devil death entered into the world, And those who are of his portion make trial thereof.
Oración vespertina — segunda lectura
Cierto que no me es conveniente gloriarme; mas vendré a las visiones y a las revelaciones del Señor. Conozco a un hombre en Cristo, que hace catorce años (si en el cuerpo, no lo sé; si fuera del cuerpo, no lo sé: Dios lo sabe) fue arrebatado hasta el tercer cielo. Y conozco al tal hombre, (si en el cuerpo, o fuera del cuerpo, no lo sé: Dios lo sabe.) Que fue arrebatado al paraíso, donde oyó palabras inefables que al hombre no le es lícito decir. De este tal me gloriaré; mas de mí mismo no me gloriaré, sino en mis flaquezas. Por lo cual si quisiere gloriarme, no seré insensato, porque diré verdad: empero ahora lo dejo, porque nadie piense de mí más de lo que en mí ve, u oye de mí. ¶ Y porque no me ensalzase desmedidamente a causa de la grandeza de las revelaciones, me fue dada una espina en mi carne, el mensajero de Satanás, que me apescozonase. Por lo cual tres veces rogué al Señor que se quitase de mí. Y él me dijo: Bástate mi gracia; porque mi poder en la flaqueza se perfecciona. Por tanto de buena gana me gloriaré de mis flaquezas, porque habite en mí el poder de Cristo. Por lo cual tomo contentamiento en las flaquezas, en las afrentas, en las necesidades, en las persecuciones, en las angustias por amor de Cristo; porque cuando soy flaco, entonces soy fuerte. Me he hecho insensato en gloriarme; vosotros me constreñisteis; que yo había de ser alabado de vosotros; porque en nada soy menos que los más eminentes apóstoles, aunque soy nada. ¶ Verdaderamente las señales de mi apostolado han sido hechas en medio de vosotros, en toda paciencia, en señales, en prodigios, y en maravillas. Porque ¿qué hay en que hayáis sido menos que las otras iglesias, sino en que yo mismo no os he sido carga? perdonádme este agravio. He aquí, estoy preparado para ir a vosotros la tercera vez, y no os seré gravoso, porque no busco a lo vuestro, sino a vosotros; porque no han de atesorar los hijos para los padres, sino los padres para los hijos. Yo empero de bonísima gana gastaré y seré gastado por vuestras almas; aunque amándoos más, sea amado menos. Mas sea así, yo no os he agravado; sino que, como soy astuto, os he tomado con engaño. ¿Os he defraudado quizá por alguno de los que he enviado a vosotros? Rogué a Tito, y envié con él al otro hermano. ¿Os defraudó Tito? ¿no andamos en un mismo Espíritu? ¿no andamos en las mismas pisadas? ¶ ¿O pensáis aun que nos escusamos con vosotros? Delante de Dios, en Cristo hablamos; mas lo hacemos todo, o amadísimos, por vuestra edificación. Porque tengo miedo que cuando viniere, no os halle en alguna manera como no querría; y que vosotros me halléis cual no querríais; porque no haya entre vosotros contiendas, envidias, iras, disensiones, detracciones, murmuraciones, engreimientos, sediciones; A fin de que cuando volviere, no me humille Dios en medio de vosotros, y haya yo de llorar por muchos de los que han pecado ya, y no se han arrepentido de la inmundicia, y fornicación, y deshonestidad que han cometido.
