Desire not a multitude of unprofitable children, Neither delight in ungodly sons. If they multiply, delight not in them, Except the fear of the Lord be with them. Trust not you in their life, Neither rely on their condition: For one is better than a thousand; And to die childless than to have ungodly children. For from one that has understanding will a city be peopled; But a race of wicked men will be made desolate. Many such things I have seen with my eyes; And my ear has heard mightier things than these. In the congregation of sinners will a fire be kindled; And in a disobedient nation wrath is kindled. He was not pacified toward the giants of old time, Who revolted in their strength. He spared not those with whom Lot sojourned, Whom he abhorred for their pride. He pitied not the people of perdition, Who were taken away in their sins. And in like manner the six hundred thousand footmen, Who were gathered together in the hardness of their hearts. Even if there be one stiff-necked person, It is marvel if he will be unpunished: For mercy and wrath are with him; He is mighty to forgive, and he pours out wrath. As his mercy is great, so is his correction also: He judges a man according to his works. The sinner will not escape with his plunder; And the perseverance of the godly will not be frustrated. He will make room for every work of mercy; Each man will find according to his works. Don’t say, I shall be hidden from the Lord; And who will remember me from on high? I will not be known among so many people; For what is my soul in a boundless creation? Behold, the heaven, and the heaven of heavens, The deep, and the earth, will be moved when he shall visit. The mountains and the foundations of the earth together Are shaken with trembling, when he looks upon them. And no heart will think upon these things: And who shall conceive his ways? And there is a tempest which no man will see; Yes, the more part of his works are hid. Who will declare the works of his righteousness? Or who will endure them? For his covenant is afar off. He that is lacking in understanding thinks upon these things; And an unwise and erring man thinks follies. My son, hearken to me, and learn knowledge, And give heed to my words with your heart. I will show forth instruction by weight, And declare knowledge exactly. In the judgement of the Lord are his works from the beginning; And from the making of them he disposed the parts thereof. He garnished his works forever, And the beginnings of them to their generations: They neither hunger, nor are weary, And they cease not from their works. No one thrusteth aside his neighbor; And they will never disobey his word. After this also the Lord looked upon the earth, And filled it with his blessings. All manner of living things covered the face thereof; And into it is their return.

Oración matutina — segunda lectura

Lucas 18

Y les propuso también una parábola, para enseñar que es menester orar siempre, y no desalentarse, Diciendo: Había un juez en una ciudad, el cual ni temía a Dios, ni respetaba a hombre alguno. Había también en aquella ciudad una viuda, la cual venía a él, diciendo: Házme justicia de mi adversario. Mas él no quiso por algún tiempo: empero después de esto, dijo dentro de sí: Aunque ni temo a Dios, ni tengo respeto a hombre; Todavía, porque esta viuda me es molesta, le haré justicia; porque no venga siempre y al fin me muela. Y dijo el Señor: Oíd lo que dice el juez injusto. ¿Y Dios no defenderá a sus escogidos que claman a él día y noche, aunque sea longánimo acerca de ellos? Os digo que los defenderá presto. Empero el Hijo del hombre, cuando viniere, ¿hallará fe en la tierra? ¶ Y dijo también a unos, que confiaban de sí como justos, y menospreciaban a los otros, esta parábola: Dos hombres subieron al templo a orar, el uno Fariseo, y el otro publicano. El Fariseo puesto en pie oraba consigo de esta manera: Dios, te hago gracias, que no soy como los otros hombres, ladrones, injustos, adúlteros; ni aun como este publicano. Ayuno dos veces en la semana: doy diezmos de todo lo que poseo. Mas el publicano estando lejos, no quería, ni aun alzar los ojos al cielo; mas hería su pecho, diciendo: Dios, ten misericordia de mí, pecador. Os digo que éste descendió a su casa justificado más bien que el otro; porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado. ¶ Y traían también a él niños para que les tocase, lo cual viéndolo sus discípulos, les reñían. Mas Jesús llamándolos, dijo: Dejád los niños venir a mí, y no los impidáis; porque de tales es el reino de Dios. De cierto os digo, que cualquiera que no recibiere el reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él. ¶ Y le preguntó un príncipe, diciendo: ¿Maestro bueno, qué haré para poseer la vida eterna? Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me dices, bueno? ninguno hay bueno, sino uno solo, Dios. Los mandamientos sabes: No matarás: No adulterarás: No hurtarás: No dirás falso testimonio: Honra a tu padre, y a tu madre. Y él dijo: Todas estas cosas he guardado desde mi juventud. Y Jesús oído esto, le dijo: Aun una cosa te falta: todo lo que tienes, véndelo, y dalo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme. Entonces él, oídas estas cosas, se entristeció sobre manera, porque era muy rico. Y viendo Jesús que se había entristecido mucho, dijo: ¡Cuán dificultosamente entrarán en el reino de Dios, los que tienen riquezas! Porque más fácil cosa es entrar un camello por un ojo de una aguja, que un rico entrar en el reino de Dios. Y los que lo oían, dijeron: ¿Y quién podrá ser salvo? Y él les dijo: Lo que es imposible acerca de los hombres, posible es acerca de Dios. Entonces Pedro dijo: He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado todas las cosas, y te hemos seguido. Y él les dijo: De cierto os digo, que nadie hay que haya dejado casa, o padres, o hermanos, o mujer, o hijos, por el reino de Dios, Que no haya de recibir mucho más en este tiempo, y en el siglo venidero la vida eterna. ¶ Y Jesús tomando aparte los doce, les dijo: He aquí, subimos a Jerusalem, y serán cumplidas todas las cosas que fueron escritas por los profetas del Hijo del hombre. Porque será entregado a los Gentiles, y será escarnecido, e injuriado, y escupido; Y después que le hubieren azotado, le matarán; mas al tercero día resucitará. Mas ellos nada de estas cosas entendían, y esta palabra les era encubierta; y no entendían lo que se decía. ¶ Y aconteció, que acercándose él de Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado junto al camino mendigando, El cual como oyó la multitud que pasaba, preguntaba qué era aquello. Y le dijeron: que Jesús Nazareno pasaba. Entonces dio voces, diciendo: Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí. Y los que iban delante, le reñían para que callase; empero él clamaba mucho más: Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí. Jesús entonces parándose, mandó traerle a sí. Y como él llegó, le preguntó, Diciendo: ¿Qué quieres que te haga? Y él dijo: Señor, que vea yo. Y Jesús le dijo: Ve: tu fe te ha hecho salvo. Y luego vio, y le seguía, glorificando a Dios; y todo el pueblo como vio esto, dio alabanza a Dios.

The Lord created man of the earth, And turned him back to it again. He gave them days by number, and a set time, And gave them authority over the things that are thereon. He endued them with strength proper to them; And made them according to his own image. He put the fear of man upon all flesh, And gave him to have dominion over beasts and fowls. Counsel, and tongue, and eyes, Ears, and heart, gave he them to understand withal. He filled them with the knowledge of wisdom, And showed them good and evil. He set his eye upon their hearts, To show them the majesty of his works. And they will praise the name of his holiness, That they may declare the majesty of his works. He added to them knowledge, And gave them a law of life for a heritage. He made an everlasting covenant with them, And showed them his judgements. Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory; And their ear heard the glory of his voice. And he said to them, Beware of all unrighteousness; And he gave them commandment, each man concerning his neighbor. Their ways are ever before him; They will not be hid from his eyes. For every nation he appointed a ruler; And Israel is the Lord’s portion. All their works are as the sun before him; And his eyes are continually upon their ways. Their iniquities are not hid from him; And all their sins are before the Lord. With him the alms of a man is as a signet; And he will keep the bounty of a man as the apple of the eye. Afterwards he will rise up and recompense them, And render their recompense upon their head. Howbeit to those who repent he granteth a return; And he comforteth those who are losing patience. Return to the Lord, and forsake sins: Make your prayer before his face, and lessen the offence. Turn again to the Most High, and turn away from iniquity; And greatly hate the abominable thing. Who will give praise to the Most High in the grave, Instead of them which live and return thanks? Thanksgiving perishes from the dead, as from one that is not: He that is in life and health will praise the Lord. How great is the mercy of the Lord, And his forgiveness to those who turn to him! For all things can’t be in men, Because the son of man is not immortal. What is brighter than the sun? yet this fails: And an evil man will think on flesh and blood. He looks upon the power of the height of heaven: And all men are earth and ashes.

Colosenses 2

Porque quiero que sepáis cuán gran combate yo sufro por vosotros, y por los que están en Laodicea, y por todos los que nunca vieron mi rostro en la carne; Para que se consuelen sus corazones, estando juntamente aunados en amor, y para alcanzar todas las riquezas de plenitud de entendimiento, a fin de conocer el misterio de Dios, y del Padre, y de Cristo: En el cual están escondidos todos los tesoros de sabiduría, y de conocimiento. Y esto digo para que nadie os engañe con palabras seductoras. Porque aunque esté ausente en el cuerpo, en el espíritu sin embargo estoy presente con vosotros, gozándome, y mirando vuestro buen orden, y la firmeza de vuestra fe en Cristo. Por tanto de la manera que habéis recibido al Señor Jesu Cristo, así andád en él, Arraigados, y sobreedificados en él, y afirmados en la fe, así como os ha sido enseñado, abundando en ella con hacimiento de gracias. ¶ Guardáos de que nadie os arrebate como despojo por medio de filosofía y vano engaño, según las tradiciones de los hombres, según los elementos del mundo, y no según Cristo: Porque en él habita toda la plenitud de la divinidad corporalmente; Y en él estáis completos, el cual es cabeza de todo principado y potestad. En el cual también estáis circuncidados de circuncisión no hecha por manos, en el despojamiento del cuerpo de los pecados de la carne, por la circuncisión de Cristo: Sepultados juntamente con él en el bautismo, en el cual también resucitasteis con él por la fe de la operación de Dios, que le levantó de entre los muertos: Y a vosotros, estando muertos en los pecados y en la incircuncisión de vuestra carne, os dio vida juntamente con él, perdonándoos todos los pecados: Rayendo de en contra de nosotros la escritura de las ordenanzas que nos era contraria, quitándola de en medio, y enclavándola en la cruz; Y habiendo despojado a los principados y a las potestades, sacóles a la vergüenza en público, triunfando sobre ellos en ella. Por tanto nadie os juzgue en comida, o en bebida, o en parte de día de fiesta, o de nueva luna, o de sábados; Las cuales cosas son la sombra de lo que estaba por venir; mas el cuerpo es de Cristo. Nadie os defraude de vuestro premio, complaciéndose en afectada humildad, y culto de ángeles, metiéndose en cosas que nunca vio, hinchado vanamente de su ánimo carnal, Y no teniéndose de la Cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo alimentado y enlazado por medio de sus ligaduras y coyunturas, crece con el aumento de Dios. Si, pues, sois muertos juntamente con Cristo cuanto a los rudimentos del mundo, ¿por qué aun, como que vivieseis en el mundo, os sujetáis a ordenanzas: (No comas, No gustes, No toques; Cosas todas que han de perecer en el mismo uso de ellas;) según los mandamientos y doctrinas de hombres? Las cuales cosas tienen a la verdad alguna apariencia de sabiduría en culto voluntario, y en cierta humildad de espíritu, y en maltratamiento del cuerpo, empero no en honor alguno para hartura de la carne.
