This is the book of the commandments of God, and the law that endures for ever: all those who hold it fast are appointed to life; but such as leave it shall die. Turn you, O Jacob, and take hold of it: walk towards her shining in the presence of the light thereof. Give not your glory to another, nor the things that are profitable to you to a strange nation. O Israel, happy are we: for the things that are pleasing to God are made known to us. Be of good cheer, my people, the memorial of Israel. You⌃ were sold to the nations, but not for destruction: because you⌃ moved God to wrath, you⌃ were delivered to your adversaries. For you⌃ provoked him that made you by sacrificing to demons, and not to God. You⌃ forgat the everlasting God, that brought you up; you⌃ grieved also Jerusalem, that nursed you. For she saw the wrath that is come upon you from God, and said, Hearken, you⌃ women that dwell about Sion: for God has brought upon me great mourning; for I have seen the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting has brought upon them. For with joy did I nourish them; but sent them away with weeping and mourning. Let no man rejoice over me, a widow, and forsaken of many: for the sins of my children am I left desolate; because they turned away from the law of God, and had no regard to his statutes, neither walked they in the ways of God’s commandments, nor trod in the paths of discipline in his righteousness. Let those who dwell about Sion come, and remember you⌃ the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting has brought upon them. For he has brought a nation upon them from far, a shameless nation, and of a strange language, who neither reverenced old man, nor pitied child. And they have carried away the dear beloved sons of the widow, and left her that was alone desolate of her daughters. But I, what can I help you? For he that brought these plagues upon you will deliver you from the hand of your enemies. Go your way, O my children, go your way: for I am left desolate. I have put off the garment of peace, and put upon me the sackcloth of my petition: I will cry to the Everlasting as long as I live. Be of good cheer, O my children, cry to God, and he shall deliver you from the power and hand of the enemies. For I have trusted in the Everlasting, that he will save you; and joy is come to me from the Holy One, because of the mercy which shall soon come to you from the Everlasting your Saviour. For I sent you out with mourning and weeping: but God will give you to me again with joy and gladness forever. For like as now those who dwell about Sion have seen your captivity: so shall they see shortly your salvation from our God, which shall come upon you with great glory, and brightness of the Everlasting. My children, suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you from God: for your enemy has persecuted you; but shortly you shall see his destruction, and shall tread upon their necks. My delicate ones have gone rough ways; they were taken away as a flock carried off by the enemies. Be of good cheer, O my children, and cry to God: for you⌃ shall be remembered of him that has brought these things upon you. For as it was your mind to go astray from God: so, return and seek him ten times more. For he that brought these plagues upon you shall bring you everlasting joy again with your salvation. Be of good cheer, O Jerusalem: for he that called you by name will comfort you. Miserable are those who afflicted you, and rejoiced at your fall. Miserable are the cities which your children served: miserable is she that received your sons. For as she rejoiced at your fall, and was glad of your ruin: so shall she be grieved for her own desolation. And I will take away her exultation in her great multitude, and her boasting shall be turned into mourning. For fire shall come upon her from the Everlasting, long to endure; and she shall be inhabited of devils for a great time. O Jerusalem, look about you toward the east, and behold the joy that comes to you from God. Behold, your sons come, whom you sent away, they come gathered together from the east to the west at the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.

Oración matutina — segunda lectura

Juan 13

Y antes de la fiesta de la pascua, sabiendo Jesús que su hora era venida para que pasase de este mundo al Padre, como había amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el fin. Y la cena acabada, como el diablo ya había metido en el corazón de Júdas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, que le entregase: Sabiendo Jesús que el Padre le había dado todas las cosas en sus manos, y que había venido de Dios, y a Dios iba: Levántase de la cena, y se quita su ropa, y tomando una toalla, se ciñó. Luego puso agua en el lebrillo, y comenzó a lavar los pies de los discípulos, y a limpiarlos con la toalla con que estaba ceñido. Viene pues a Simón Pedro; y éste le dice: ¿Señor, tú me lavas a mí los pies? Respondió Jesús, y le dijo: Lo que yo hago, tú no lo sabes ahora; mas lo sabrás después. Dícele Pedro: No me lavarás los pies jamás. Respondióle Jesús: Si no te lavare, no tendrás parte conmigo. Dícele Simón Pedro: Señor, no solo mis pies, mas aun mis manos, y mi cabeza. Dícele Jesús: El que está lavado, no ha menester sino que lave sus pies, pues está todo limpio. Y vosotros limpios estáis, aunque no todos. Porque sabía quien era el que le entregaba; por eso dijo: No estáis limpios todos. ¶ Así que, después que les hubo lavado los pies, y tomado su ropa, volviéndose a asentar otra vez, les dijo: ¿Sabéis lo que os he hecho? Vosotros me llamáis Maestro y Señor; y decís bien; porque lo soy: Pues si yo, vuestro Señor y Maestro, he lavado vuestros pies, vosotros también debéis lavar los pies los unos a los otros. Porque ejemplo os he dado, para que como yo os he hecho, vosotros también hagáis. De cierto, de cierto os digo: El siervo no es mayor que su Señor: ni el enviado es mayor que el que le envió. Si sabéis estas cosas, bienaventurados sois, si las hiciereis. No hablo de todos vosotros: yo sé los que he elegido; mas para que se cumpla la Escritura: El que come pan conmigo, levantó contra mí su calcañar. Desde ahora os lo digo, antes que suceda, para que cuando sucediere, creáis que yo soy. De cierto, de cierto os digo, que el que recibe al que yo enviare, a mí recibe; y el que a mí recibe, recibe al que me envió. ¶ Como hubo Jesús dicho esto, fue conmovido en espíritu, y protestó, y dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo, que uno de vosotros me ha de entregar. Entonces los discípulos mirábanse los unos a los otros, dudando de quien hablaba. Y uno de sus discípulos, al cual Jesús amaba, estaba recostado en el seno de Jesús. A éste pues hizo señas Simón Pedro, para que preguntase quien era aquel de quien hablaba. El entonces recostado sobre el pecho de Jesús, le dice: ¿Señor, quién es? Respondió Jesús: Aquel es, a quien yo diere el pan mojado. Y mojando el pan, diólo a Júdas Iscariote, el hijo de Simón. Y tras el bocado Satanás entró en él. Entonces Jesús le dice: Lo que haces, házlo más presto. Empero esto ninguno de los que estaban a la mesa entendió a qué propósito se lo dijo. Porque algunos de ellos pensaban, porque Júdas tenía la bolsa, que Jesús le decía: Compra las cosas que nos son necesarias para la fiesta: o que diese algo a los pobres. Como él pues hubo tomado el bocado, luego salió; y era ya noche. ¶ Entonces como él salió, dijo Jesús: Ahora es glorificado el Hijo del hombre, y Dios es glorificado en él. Si Dios es glorificado en él, Dios también le glorificará en sí mismo; y luego le glorificará. Hijitos, aun un poco estoy con vosotros. Me buscaréis; y así como dije a los Judíos: Donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir; así ahora a vosotros lo digo. Un mandamiento nuevo os doy: Que os améis los unos a los otros: como os amé yo, que también os améis los unos a los otros. En esto conocerán todos que sois mis discípulos, si tuviereis amor los unos hacia los otros. Le dijo Simón Pedro: ¿Señor, a dónde vas? Respondióle Jesús: Donde yo voy, no me puedes ahora seguir; mas me seguirás después. Dícele Pedro: ¿Señor, por qué no te puedo seguir ahora? mi vida pondré por ti. Repondióle Jesús: ¿Tu vida pondrás por mí? De cierto, de cierto te digo: No cantará el gallo, sin que me hayas negado tres veces.

Put off, O Jerusalem, the garment of your mourning and affliction, and put on the comeliness of the glory that comes from God forever. Cast about you the robe of the righteousness which comes from God; set a diadem on your head of the glory of the Everlasting. For God will show your brightness to every region under heaven. For your name shall be called of God forever The peace of righteousness, and The glory of godliness. Arise, O Jerusalem, and stand upon the height, and look about you toward the east, and behold your children gathered from the going down of the sun to the rising thereof at the word of the Holy One, rejoicing that God has remembered them. For they went from you on foot, being led away of their enemies: but God brings them in to you borne on high with glory, as on a royal throne. For God has appointed that every high mountain, and the everlasting hills, should be made low, and the valleys filled up, to make plain the ground, that Israel may go safely in the glory of God. Moreover the woods and every sweet smelling tree have overshadowed Israel by the commandment of God. For God shall lead Israel with joy in the light of his glory with the mercy and righteousness that comes from him.

2 Timoteo 4

Requiérote, pues, yo delante de Dios, y del Señor Jesu Cristo, que ha de juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos en su manifestación, y en su reino; Que prediques la palabra; que instes a tiempo y fuera de tiempo; redarguye, reprende, exhorta con toda blandura y doctrina: Porque vendrá tiempo cuando no sufrirán la sana doctrina, antes teniendo comezón en las orejas, se amontonarán maestros que les hablen conforme a sus mismas concupiscencias. Y así apartarán de la verdad el oído, y se volverán a las fábulas. Tú por tanto vela en todo, sufre trabajos, haz obra de evangelista, cumple bien tu ministerio: Porque yo ya presto soy sacrificado, y el tiempo de mi desatamiento está cercano. Buena milicia he militado, acabado he la carrera, he guardado la fe. Por lo demás, me está guardada la corona de justicia, la cual me dará el Señor, el juez justo, en aquel día; y no solo a mí, sino también a todos los que aman su venida. ¶ Procura de venir presto a mí; Porque Démas me ha desamparado, amando este mundo presente, y es ido a Tesalónica; Crescente a Galacia; Tito a Dalmacia. En mi primera defensa ninguno estuvo conmigo; antes me desampararon todos: ruego a Dios no les sea imputado. Mas el Señor estuvo a mi lado, y me esforzó para que por mí fuese cumplida la predicación, y todos los Gentiles la oyesen; y fui librado de la boca del león. Y el Señor me librará de toda obra mala, y me preservará para su reino celestial: al cual sea gloria por siglos de siglos. Amén. Saluda a Prisca y a Aquila, y a la casa de Onesiforo. Erasto se quedó en Corinto; y a Trófimo le dejé en Mileto enfermo. Apresúrate a venir antes del invierno. Eubulo te saluda, y Pudente, y Lino, y Claudia, y todos los hermanos. El Señor Jesu Cristo sea con tu espíritu. La gracia sea con vosotros.
