Love righteousness, you⌃ that be judges of the earth, Think you⌃ of the Lord with a good mind, And in singleness of heart seek you⌃ him; Because he is found of those who tempt him not, And is manifested to those who do not distrust him. For crooked thoughts separate from God; And the supreme Power, when it is brought to the proof, puts to confusion the foolish: Because wisdom will not enter into a soul that deviseth evil, Nor dwell in a body that is held in pledge by sin. For a holy spirit of discipline will flee deceit. And will start away from thoughts that are without understanding, And will be put to confusion when unrighteousness has come in. For wisdom is a spirit that loves man, And she will not hold a blasphemer guiltless for his lips; Because God bears witness of his reins, And is a true overseer of his heart, And a hearer of his tongue: Because the spirit of the Lord has filled the world, And that which holds all things together has knowledge of every voice. Therefore no man that utters unrighteous things will be unseen; Neither will Justice, when it convicts, pass him by. For in the midst of his counsels the ungodly will be searched out; And the sound of his words will come to the Lord To bring to conviction his lawless deeds: Because there is an ear of jealousy that listens to all things, And the noise of murmurings is not hid. Beware then of unprofitable murmuring, And refrain your tongue from backbiting; Because no secret utterance will go on its way void, And a mouth that belies destroys a soul. Court not death in the error of your life; Neither draw upon yourselves destruction by the works of your hands: Because God made not death; Neither delights he when the living perish: For he created all things that they might have being: And the generative powers of the world are healthsome, And there is no poison of destruction in them: Nor has Hades royal dominion upon earth, For righteousness is immortal: But ungodly men by their hands and their words called death to them: Deeming him a friend they consumed away, And they made a covenant with him, Because they are worthy to be of his portion.

Marcos 16

Y COMO pasó el sábado, María Magdalena, y María madre de Jacobo, y Salomé, compraron drogas aromáticas, para venir á ungirle. Y muy de mañana, el primer día de la semana, vienen al sepulcro, ya salido el sol. Y decían entre sí: ¿Quién nos revolverá la piedra de la puerta del sepulcro? Y como miraron, ven la piedra revuelta; que era muy grande. Y entradas en el sepulcro, vieron un mancebo sentado al lado derecho, cubierto de una larga ropa blanca; y se espantaron. Más él les dice: No os asustéis: buscáis á Jesús Nazareno, el que fué crucificado; resucitado há, no está aquí; he aquí el lugar en donde le pusieron. Mas id, decid á sus discípulos y á Pedro, que él va antes que vosotros á Galilea: allí le veréis, como os dijo. Y ellas se fueron huyendo del sepulcro; porque las había tomado temblor y espanto; ni decían nada á nadie, porque tenían miedo. Mas como Jesús resucitó por la mañana, el primer día de la semana, apareció primeramente á María Magdalena, de la cual había echado siete demonios. Yendo ella, lo hizo saber á los que habían estado con él, que estaban tristes y llorando. Y ellos como oyeron que vivía, y que había sido visto de ella, no lo creyeron. Mas después apareció en otra forma á dos de ellos que iban caminando, yendo al campo. Y ellos fueron, y lo hicieron saber á los otros; y ni aun á éllos creyeron. Finalmente se apareció á los once mismos, estando sentados á la mesa, y censuróles su incredulidad y dureza de corazón, que no hubiesen creído á los que le habían visto resucitado. Y les dijo: Id por todo el mundo; predicad el evangelio á toda criatura. El que creyere y fuere bautizado, será salvo; mas el que no creyere, será condenado. Y estas señales seguirán á los que creyeren: En mi nombre echarán fuera demonios; hablaran nuevas lenguas; Quitarán serpientes, y si bebieren cosa mortífera, no les dañará; sobre los enfermos pondrán sus manos, y sanarán. Y el Señor, después que les habló, fué recibido arriba en el cielo, y sentóse á la diestra de Dios. Y ellos, saliendo, predicaron en todas partes, obrando con ellos el Señor, y confirmando la palabra con las señales que se seguían. Amen.

For they said within themselves, reasoning not aright, Short and sorrowful is our life; And there is no healing when a man comes to his end, And none was ever known that gave release from Hades. Because by mere chance were we born, And hereafter we will be as though we had never been: Because the breath in our nostrils is smoke, And while our heart beats reason is a spark, Which being extinguished, the body will be turned into ashes, And the spirit will be dispersed as thin air; And our name will be forgotten in time, And no man will remember our works; And our life will pass away as the traces of a cloud, And will be scattered as is a mist, When it is chased by the beams of the sun, And overcome by the heat thereof. For our alloted time is the passing of a shadow, And our end retreats not; Because it is fast sealed, and none turns it back. Come therefore and let us enjoy the good things that now are; And let us use the creation with all our soul as youth’s possession. Let us fill ourselves with costly wine and perfumes; And let no flower of spring pass us by: Let us crown ourselves with rosebuds, before they be withered: Let none of us go without his share in our proud revelry: Everywhere let us leave tokens of our mirth: Because this is our portion, and our lot is this. Let us oppress the righteous poor; Let us not spare the widow, Nor reverence the hairs of the old man gray for length of years. But let our strength be to us a law of righteousness; For that which is weak is found to be of no service. But let us lie in wait for the righteous man, Because he is of disservice to us, And is contrary to our works, And upbraids us with sins against the law, And lays to our charge sins against our discipline. He professes to have knowledge of God, And names himself servant of the Lord. He became to us a reproof of our thoughts. He is grievous to us even to behold, Because his life is unlike other men’s, And his paths are of strange fashion. We were accounted of him as worthless metal, And he abstains from our ways as from uncleannesses. The latter end of the righteous he calls happy; And he vaunts that God is his father. Let us see if his words be true, And let us try what shall befall in the ending of his life. For if the righteous man is God’s son, he will uphold him, And he will deliver him out of the hand of his adversaries. With outrage and torture let us put him to the test, That we may learn his gentleness, And may prove his patience under wrong. Let us condemn him to a shameful death; For he will be visited according to his words. Thus reasoned they, and they were led astray; For their wickedness blinded them, And they knew not the mysteries of God, Neither hoped they for wages of holiness, Nor did they judge that there is a prize for blameless souls. Because God created man for incorruption, And made him an image of his own proper being; But by the envy of the devil death entered into the world, And those who are of his portion make trial thereof.

2 Corintios 12

CIERTO no me es conveniente gloriarme; mas vendré á las visiones y á las revelaciones del Señor. Conozco á un hombre en Cristo, que hace catorce años (si en el cuerpo, no lo sé; si fuera del cuerpo, no lo sé: Dios lo sabe) fué arrebatado hasta el tercer cielo. Y conozco tal hombre, (si en el cuerpo, ó fuera del cuerpo, no lo sé: Dios lo sabe,) Que fué arrebatado al paraíso, donde oyó palabras secretas que el hombre no puede decir. De este tal me gloriaré, mas de mí mismo nada me gloriaré, sino en mis flaquezas. Por lo cual si quisiere gloriarme, no seré insensato: porque diré verdad: empero lo dejo, porque nadie piense de mí más de lo que en mí ve, ú oye de mí. Y porque la grandeza de las revelaciones no me levante descomedidamente, me es dado un aguijón en mi carne, un mensajero de Satanás que me abofetee, para que no me enaltezca sobremanera. Por lo cual tres veces he rogado al Señor, que se quite de mí. Y me ha dicho: Bástate mi gracia; porque mi potencia en la flaqueza se perfecciona. Por tanto, de buena gana me gloriaré más bien en mis flaquezas, porque habite en mí la potencia de Cristo. Por lo cual me gozo en las flaquezas, en afrentas, en necesidades, en persecuciones, en angustias por Cristo; porque cuando soy flaco, entonces soy poderoso. Heme hecho un necio en gloriarme: vosotros me constreñisteis; pues yo había de ser alabado de vosotros: porque en nada he sido menos que los sumos apóstoles, aunque soy nada. Con todo esto, las señales de apóstol han sido hechas entre vosotros en toda paciencia, en señales, y en prodigios, y en maravillas. Porque ¿qué hay en que habéis sido menos que las otras iglesias, sino en que yo mismo no os he sido carga? Perdonadme esta injuria. He aquí estoy aparejado para ir á vosotros la tercera vez, y no os seré gravoso; porque no busco vuestras cosas, sino á vosotros: porque no han de atesorar los hijos para los padres sino los padres para los hijos. Empero yo de muy buena gana despenderé y seré despendido por vuestras almas, aunque amándoos más, sea amado menos. Mas sea así, yo no os he agravado: sino que, como soy astuto, os he tomado por engaño. ¿Acaso os he engañado por alguno de los que he enviado á vosotros? Rogué á Tito, y envié con él al hermano. ¿Os engañó quizá Tito? ¿no hemos procedido con el mismo espíritu y por las mismas pisadas? ¿Pensáis aún que nos excusamos con vosotros? Delante de Dios en Cristo hablamos: mas todo, muy amados, por vuestra edificación. Porque temo que cuando llegare, no os halle tales como quiero, y yo sea hallado de vosotros cual no queréis; que haya entre vosotros contiendas, envidias, iras, disensiones, detracciones, murmuaciones, elaciones, bandos: Que cuando volviere, me humille Dios entre vosotros, y haya de llorar por muchos de los que antes habrán pecado, y no se han arrepentido de la inmundicia y fornicación y deshonestidad que han cometido.
