I will give thanks to you, O Lord, O King, And will praise you, O God my Saviour: I do give thanks to your name: For you were my protector and helper, And did deliver my body out of destruction, And out of the snare of a slanderous tongue, From lips that forge lies, And was my helper before those who stood by; And did deliver me, according to the abundance of your mercy, and greatness of your name, From the gnashings of teeth ready to devour, Out of the hand of such as sought my life, Out of the manifold afflictions which I had; From the choking of a fire on every side, And out of the midst of fire which I kindled not; Out of the depth of the belly of the grave, And from an unclean tongue, And from lying words, The slander of an unrighteous tongue to the king. My soul drew near even to death, And my life was near to the grave beneath. They compassed me on every side, And there was none to help me. I was looking for the succour of men, And it was not. And I remembered your mercy, O Lord, And your working which has been from everlasting, How you deliver those who wait for you, And save them out of the hand of the enemies. For you saved me from destruction, And delivered me from the evil time: Therefore will I give thanks and praise to you, And bless the name of the Lord.

ENTONCES el reino de los cielos será semejante á diez vírgenes, que tomando sus lámparas, salieron á recibir al esposo. Y las cinco de ellas eran prudentes, y las cinco fatuas. Las que eran fatuas, tomando sus lámparas, no tomaron consigo aceite; Mas las prudentes tomaron aceite en sus vasos, juntamente con sus lámparas. Y tardándose el esposo, cabecearon todas, y se durmieron. Y á la media noche fué oído un clamor: He aquí, el esposo viene; salid á recibirle. Entonces todas aquellas vírgenes se levantaron, y aderezaron sus lámparas. Y las fatuas dijeron á las prudentes: Dadnos de vuestro aceite; porque nuestras lámparas se apagan. Mas las prudentes respondieron, diciendo. Porque no nos falte á nosotras y á vosotras, id antes á los que venden, y comprad para vosotras. Y mientras que ellas iban á comprar, vino el esposo; y las que estaban apercibidas, entraron con él á las bodas; y se cerró la puerta. Y después vinieron también las otras vírgenes, diciendo: Señor, Señor, ábrenos. Mas respondiendo él, dijo: De cierto os digo, que no os conozco. Velad, pues, porque no sabéis el día ni la hora en que el Hijo del hombre ha de venir.
