Then Daniel took pitch, and fat, and hair, and did seethe them together, and made lumps thereof: this he put in the dragon’s mouth, so the dragon did eat and burst in sunder: and Daniel said, Behold, these are the gods you⌃ worship. When they of Babylon heard that, they took great indignation, and conspired against the king, saying, The king is become a Jew, and he has pulled down Bel, and slain the dragon, and put the priests to the sword. So they came to the king, and said, Deliver us Daniel, or else we will destroy you and your house. Now when the king saw that they pressed him sore, being constrained, the king delivered Daniel to them: who cast him into the lion’s den: where he was six days. And in the den there were seven lions, and they had given them every day two carcases, and two sheep: which then were not given to them, to the intent they might devour Daniel. Now there was in Jewry the prophet Habakkuk, who had made pottage, and had broken bread into a bowl, and was going into the field, for to bring it to the reapers. But the angel of the Lord said to Habakkuk, Go carry the dinner that you have into Babylon to Daniel, in the lions’ den. And Habakkuk said, Lord, I never saw Babylon; neither do I know where the den is. Then the angel of the Lord took him by the crown, and lifted him up by the hair of his head, and with the blast of his breath set him in Babylon over the den. And Habakkuk cried, saying, O Daniel, Daniel, take the dinner which God has sent you. And Daniel said, You have remembered me, O God: neither have you forsaken those who love you. So Daniel arose, and did eat: and the angel of God set Habakkuk in his own place again immediately. Upon the seventh day the king came to bewail Daniel: and when he came to the den, he looked in, and, behold, Daniel was sitting. Then cried the king with a loud voice, saying, Great are you, O Lord, you God of Daniel, and there is none other beside you. And he drew him out, and cast those that were the cause of his destruction into the den: and they were devoured in a moment before his face.

Y PASADAS estas cosas andaba Jesús en Galilea: que no quería andar en Judea, porque los Judíos procuraban matarle. Y estaba cerca la fiesta de los Judíos, la de los tabernáculos. Y dijéronle sus hermanos: Pásate de aquí, y vete á Judea, para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces. Que ninguno que procura ser claro, hace algo en oculto. Si estas cosas haces, manifiéstate al mundo. Porque ni aun sus hermanos creían en él. Díceles entonces Jesús: Mi tiempo aun no ha venido; mas vuestro tiempo siempre está presto. No puede el mundo aborreceros á vosotros; mas á mí me aborrece, porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus obras son malas. Vosotros subid á esta fiesta; yo no subo aún á esta fiesta, porque mi tiempo aun no es cumplido. Y habiéndoles dicho esto, quedóse en Galilea. Mas como sus hermanos hubieron subido, entonces él también subió á la fiesta, no manifiestamente, sino como en secreto. Y buscábanle los Judíos en la fiesta, y decían: ¿Dónde está aquél? Y había grande murmullo de él entre la gente: porque unos decían: Bueno es; y otros decían: No, antes engaña á las gentes. Mas ninguno hablaba abiertamente de él, por miedo de los Judíos.
