And after him rose up Nathan To prophesy in the days of David. As is the fat when it is separated from the peace offering, So was David separated from the children of Israel. He played with lions as with kids, And with bears as with lambs of the flock. In his youth did he not kill a giant, And take away reproach from the people, When he lifted up his hand with a sling stone, And beat down the boasting of Goliath? For he called upon the Most High Lord; And he gave him strength in his right hand, To kill a man mighty in war, To exalt the horn of his people. So they glorified him for his ten thousands, And praised him for the blessings of the Lord, In that there was given him a diadem of glory. For he destroyed the enemies on every side, And brought to nothing the Philistines his adversaries, Brake their horn in pieces to this day. In every work of his he gave thanks to the Holy One Most High with words of glory; With his whole heart he sang praise, And loved him that made him. Also he set singers before the altar, And to make sweet melody by their music. He gave comeliness to the feasts, And set in order the seasons to perfection, While they praised his holy name, And the sanctuary sounded from early morning. The Lord took away his sins, And exalted his horn forever; And gave him a covenant of kings, And a throne of glory in Israel. After him rose up a son, a man of understanding; And for his sake he lived at large. Solomon reigned in days of peace; And to him God gave rest round about, That he might set up a house for his name, And prepare a sanctuary forever. How wise was you made in your youth, And filled as a river with understanding! Your soul covered the earth, And you filled it with dark parables. Your name reached to the aisles afar off; And for your peace you were beloved. For your songs and proverbs and parables, And for your interpretations, the countries marveled at you. By the name of the Lord God, Which is called the God of Israel, You did gather gold as tin, And did multiply silver as lead. You did bow your loins to women, And in your body you were brought into subjection. You did blemish your honor, And profane your seed, To bring wrath upon your children; And I was grieved for your folly: So that the sovereignty was divided, And out of Ephraim ruled a disobedient kingdom. But the Lord will never forsake his mercy; And he will not destroy any of his works, Nor blot out the posterity of his elect; And the seed of him that loved him he will not take away; And he gave a remnant to Jacob, And to David a root out of him. And so rested Solomon with his fathers; And of his seed he left behind him Rehoboam, Even the foolishness of the people, and one that lacked understanding, Who made the people to revolt by his counsel. Also Jeroboam the son of Nebat, Who made Israel to sin, And gave to Ephraim a way of sin. And their sins were multiplied exceedingly, To remove them from their land. For they sought out all manner of wickedness, Till vengeance should come upon them.

João 9

E, passando Jesus, viu um homem cego de nascença. E os seus discípulos lhe perguntaram, dizendo: Rabi, quem pecou, este ou seus pais, para que nascesse cego? Jesus respondeu: Nem ele pecou nem seus pais; mas foi assim para que se manifestem nele as obras de Deus. Convém que eu faça as obras daquele que me enviou, enquanto é dia; a noite vem, quando ninguém pode trabalhar. Enquanto estou no mundo, sou a luz do mundo. Tendo dito isto, cuspiu na terra, e com a saliva fez lodo, e untou com o lodo os olhos do cego. E disse-lhe: Vai, lava-te no tanque de Siloé (que significa o Enviado). Foi, pois, e lavou-se, e voltou vendo. Então os vizinhos, e aqueles que dantes tinham visto que era cego, diziam: Não é este aquele que estava assentado e mendigava? Uns diziam: É este. E outros: Parece-se com ele. Ele dizia: Sou eu. Diziam-lhe, pois: Como se te abriram os olhos? Ele respondeu, e disse: O homem, chamado Jesus, fez lodo, e untou-me os olhos, e disse-me: Vai ao tanque de Siloé, e lava-te. Então fui, e lavei-me, e vi. Disseram-lhe, pois: Onde está ele? Respondeu: Não sei. Levaram, pois, aos fariseus o que dantes era cego. E era sábado quando Jesus fez o lodo e lhe abriu os olhos. Tornaram, pois, também os fariseus a perguntar-lhe como vira, e ele lhes disse: Pôs-me lodo sobre os olhos, lavei-me, e vejo. Então alguns dos fariseus diziam: Este homem não é de Deus, pois não guarda o sábado. Diziam outros: Como pode um homem pecador fazer tais sinais? E havia dissensão entre eles. Tornaram, pois, a dizer ao cego: Tu, que dizes daquele que te abriu os olhos? E ele respondeu: Que é profeta. Os judeus, porém, não creram que ele tivesse sido cego, e que agora visse, enquanto não chamaram os pais do que agora via. E perguntaram-lhes, dizendo: É este o vosso filho, que vós dizeis ter nascido cego? Como, pois, vê agora? Seus pais lhes responderam, e disseram: Sabemos que este é o nosso filho, e que nasceu cego; Mas como agora vê, não sabemos; ou quem lhe tenha aberto os olhos, não sabemos. Tem idade, perguntai-lho a ele mesmo; e ele falará por si mesmo. Seus pais disseram isto, porque temiam os judeus. Porquanto já os judeus tinham resolvido que, se alguém confessasse ser ele o Cristo, fosse expulso da sinagoga. Por isso é que seus pais disseram: Tem idade, perguntai-lho a ele mesmo. Chamaram, pois, pela segunda vez o homem que tinha sido cego, e disseram-lhe: Dá glória a Deus; nós sabemos que esse homem é pecador. Respondeu ele pois, e disse: Se é pecador, não sei; uma coisa sei, é que, havendo eu sido cego, agora vejo. E tornaram a dizer-lhe: Que te fez ele? Como te abriu os olhos? Respondeu-lhes: Já vo-lo disse, e não ouvistes; para que o quereis tornar a ouvir? Quereis vós porventura fazer-vos também seus discípulos? Então o injuriaram, e disseram: Discípulo dele sejas tu; nós, porém, somos discípulos de Moisés. Nós bem sabemos que Deus falou a Moisés, mas este não sabemos de onde é. O homem respondeu, e disse-lhes: Nisto, pois, está a maravilha, que vós não saibais de onde ele é, e contudo me abrisse os olhos. Ora, nós sabemos que Deus não ouve a pecadores; mas, se alguém é temente a Deus, e faz a sua vontade, a esse ouve. Desde o princípio do mundo nunca se ouviu que alguém abrisse os olhos a um cego de nascença. Se este não fosse de Deus, nada poderia fazer. Responderam eles, e disseram-lhe: Tu és nascido todo em pecados, e nos ensinas a nós? E expulsaram-no. Jesus ouviu que o tinham expulsado e, encontrando-o, disse-lhe: Crês tu no Filho de Deus? Ele respondeu, e disse: Quem é ele, Senhor, para que nele creia? E Jesus lhe disse: Tu já o tens visto, e é aquele que fala contigo. Ele disse: Creio, Senhor. E o adorou. E disse-lhe Jesus: Eu vim a este mundo para juízo, a fim de que os que não vêem vejam, e os que vêem sejam cegos. E aqueles dos fariseus, que estavam com ele, ouvindo isto, disseram-lhe: Também nós somos cegos? Disse-lhes Jesus: Se fôsseis cegos, não teríeis pecado; mas como agora dizeis: Vemos; por isso o vosso pecado permanece.

Also there arose Elijah the prophet as fire, And his word burned like a torch: Who brought a famine upon them, And by his zeal made them few in number. By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven: Thrice did he thus bring down fire. How was you glorified, O Elijah, in your wondrous deeds! And who shall glory like to you? Who did raise up a dead man from death, And from the place of the dead, by the word of the Most High: Who brought down kings to destruction, And honorable men from their bed: Who heard rebuke in Sinai, And judgements of vengeance in Horeb: Who anointed kings for retribution, And prophets to succeed after him: Who was taken up in a tempest of fire, In a chariot of fiery horses: Who was recorded for reproofs in their seasons, To pacify anger, before it brake forth into wrath; To turn the heart of the father to the son, And to restore the tribes of Jacob. Blessed are those who saw you, And those who have been beautified with love; For we also shall surely live. Elijah it was, who was wrapped in a tempest: And Elisha was filled with his spirit; And in all his days he was not moved by the fear of any ruler, And no one brought him into subjection. Nothing was too high for him; And when he was laid on sleep his body prophesied. As in his life he did wonders, So in death were his works marvelous. For all this the people repented not, And they departed not from their sins, Till they were carried away as a plunder from their land, And were scattered through all the earth; And the people was left very few in number, And a ruler was left in the house of David. Some of them did that which was pleasing to God, And some multiplied sins. Hezekiah fortified his city, And brought in water into the midst of them: He digged the sheer rock with iron, And built up wells for waters. In his days Sennacherib came up, And sent Rabshakeh, and departed; And he lifted up his hand against Sion, And boasted great things in his arrogancy. Then were their hearts and their hands shaken, And they were in pain, as women in travail; And they called upon the Lord which is merciful, Spreading forth their hands to him: And the Holy One heard them speedily out of Heaven, And delivered them by the hand of Isaiah. He struck the camp of the Assyrians, And his angel utterly destroyed them. For Hezekiah did that which was pleasing to the Lord, And was strong in the ways of David his father, Which Isaiah the prophet commanded, Who was great and faithful in his vision. In his days the sun went backward; And he added life to the king. He saw by an excellent spirit what should come to pass at the last; And he comforted those who mourned in Sion. He showed the things that should be to the end of time, And the hidden things or ever they came.

1 Timóteo 6

Todos os servos que estão debaixo do jugo estimem a seus senhores por dignos de toda a honra, para que o nome de Deus e a doutrina não sejam blasfemados. E os que têm senhores crentes não os desprezem, por serem irmãos; antes os sirvam melhor, porque eles, que participam do benefício, são crentes e amados. Isto ensina e exorta. Se alguém ensina alguma outra doutrina, e se não conforma com as sãs palavras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, e com a doutrina que é segundo a piedade, É soberbo, e nada sabe, mas delira acerca de questões e contendas de palavras, das quais nascem invejas, porfias, blasfêmias, ruins suspeitas, Perversas contendas de homens corruptos de entendimento, e privados da verdade, cuidando que a piedade seja causa de ganho; aparta-te dos tais. Mas é grande ganho a piedade com contentamento. Porque nada trouxemos para este mundo, e manifesto é que nada podemos levar dele. Tendo, porém, sustento, e com que nos cobrirmos, estejamos com isso contentes. Mas os que querem ser ricos caem em tentação, e em laço, e em muitas concupiscências loucas e nocivas, que submergem os homens na perdição e ruína. Porque o amor ao dinheiro é a raiz de toda a espécie de males; e nessa cobiça alguns se desviaram da fé, e se traspassaram a si mesmos com muitas dores. Mas tu, ó homem de Deus, foge destas coisas, e segue a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a paciência, a mansidão. Milita a boa milícia da fé, toma posse da vida eterna, para a qual também foste chamado, tendo já feito boa confissão diante de muitas testemunhas. Mando-te diante de Deus, que todas as coisas vivifica, e de Cristo Jesus, que diante de Pôncio Pilatos deu o testemunho de boa confissão, Que guardes este mandamento sem mácula e repreensão, até à aparição de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; A qual a seu tempo mostrará o bem-aventurado, e único poderoso Senhor, Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores; Aquele que tem, ele só, a imortalidade, e habita na luz inacessível; a quem nenhum dos homens viu nem pode ver, ao qual seja honra e poder sempiterno. Amém. Manda aos ricos deste mundo que não sejam altivos, nem ponham a esperança na incerteza das riquezas, mas em Deus, que abundantemente nos dá todas as coisas para delas gozarmos; Que façam bem, enriqueçam em boas obras, repartam de boa mente, e sejam comunicáveis; Que entesourem para si mesmos um bom fundamento para o futuro, para que possam se apoderar da vida eterna. Ó Timóteo, guarda o depósito que te foi confiado, tendo horror aos clamores vãos e profanos e às oposições da falsamente chamada ciência, A qual professando-a alguns, se desviaram da fé. A graça seja contigo. Amém.
