Bible Verses About Healing
The Bible speaks of God as a healer of body, mind, and spirit. From the promise that he binds up the brokenhearted to Jesus healing the sick throughout the Gospels, Scripture offers real hope to anyone facing illness, pain, or heartbreak. These verses remind us that God hears our prayers, stays close in suffering, and holds the power to restore.
Isaiah 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.
This prophecy of the suffering Messiah is the verse Christians turn to first, tying our healing directly to Christ's wounds on the cross.
Jeremiah 17:14
Heal me, O Yahweh, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.
The prophet's simple, urgent plea has become one of the most-prayed healing prayers in all of Scripture.
Psalms 147:3
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
A tender promise that God's healing reaches beyond the body to mend broken hearts and grief.
James 5:14-15
Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
The New Testament's clearest instruction for the sick: call for prayer, and trust the Lord to raise you up.
Psalms 103:2-3
Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,
David counts healing among God's daily benefits, listed right alongside the forgiveness of sins.
1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds.
Peter echoes Isaiah's prophecy to affirm that the healing won at the cross belongs to those who are in Christ.
Exodus 15:26
He said, “If you will diligently listen to Yahweh your God’s voice, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am Yahweh who heals you.”
God reveals himself to Israel by the name Healer, making healing part of his very character.
Jeremiah 30:17
For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds,” says Yahweh; “because they have called you an outcast, saying, ‘It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’ ”
A direct promise of restored health, spoken to a wounded people who felt forgotten.
Psalms 30:2
Yahweh my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me.
David's personal testimony that he cried out in his sickness and God answered him with healing.
Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Scripture's wisdom that joy itself works like medicine, linking the state of the heart to the health of the body.
Mark 5:34
He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”
Jesus honors a suffering woman's quiet faith, showing that no illness is too long-standing for him to heal.
Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”
The Bible's final word on healing: a coming day when God wipes away every tear and sickness ends forever.
