Bel and the Dragon 1:27-42

Then Daniel took pitch, and fat, and hair, and did seethe them together, and made lumps thereof: this he put in the dragon’s mouth, so the dragon did eat and burst in sunder: and Daniel said, Behold, these are the gods you⌃ worship. When they of Babylon heard that, they took great indignation, and conspired against the king, saying, The king is become a Jew, and he has pulled down Bel, and slain the dragon, and put the priests to the sword. So they came to the king, and said, Deliver us Daniel, or else we will destroy you and your house. Now when the king saw that they pressed him sore, being constrained, the king delivered Daniel to them: who cast him into the lion’s den: where he was six days. And in the den there were seven lions, and they had given them every day two carcases, and two sheep: which then were not given to them, to the intent they might devour Daniel. Now there was in Jewry the prophet Habakkuk, who had made pottage, and had broken bread into a bowl, and was going into the field, for to bring it to the reapers. But the angel of the Lord said to Habakkuk, Go carry the dinner that you have into Babylon to Daniel, in the lions’ den. And Habakkuk said, Lord, I never saw Babylon; neither do I know where the den is. Then the angel of the Lord took him by the crown, and lifted him up by the hair of his head, and with the blast of his breath set him in Babylon over the den. And Habakkuk cried, saying, O Daniel, Daniel, take the dinner which God has sent you. And Daniel said, You have remembered me, O God: neither have you forsaken those who love you. So Daniel arose, and did eat: and the angel of God set Habakkuk in his own place again immediately. Upon the seventh day the king came to bewail Daniel: and when he came to the den, he looked in, and, behold, Daniel was sitting. Then cried the king with a loud voice, saying, Great are you, O Lord, you God of Daniel, and there is none other beside you. And he drew him out, and cast those that were the cause of his destruction into the den: and they were devoured in a moment before his face.

Jean 7:1-13

Et après cela Jésus parcourait la Galilée, car il ne voulait pas parcourir la Judée parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le faire mourir. Or la fête des Juifs, celle des tabernacles, était proche : ses frères donc lui dirent : « Sors d'ici, et viens en Judée, afin que tes disciples aussi voient les œuvres que tu fais ; car personne ne fait en cachette ce qu'il cherche en même temps à rendre public ; puisque tu fais ces choses, manifeste-toi toi-même au monde. » En effet pas même ses frères ne croyaient en lui. Jésus leur dit donc : « Mon temps n'est pas encore venu, mais votre temps est toujours venu ; le monde ne peut vous haïr, mais il me hait parce que je témoigne contre lui que ses œuvres sont mauvaises ; pour vous, montez à la fête ; quant à moi, je ne monte pas encore à cette fête, parce que mon temps n'est pas encore accompli. » Or, après leur avoir ainsi parlé, il restait en Galilée. Mais, lorsque ses frères furent montés à la fête, alors lui-même y monta aussi, non pas ouvertement, mais comme en cachette. Les Juifs donc le cherchaient dans la fête et disaient : « Où est-il ? » Et il y avait parmi la foule un grand murmure à son sujet ; tandis que les uns disaient : « Il est homme de bien, d'autres disaient : « Non ; mais il égare la foule. » Cependant personne ne parlait librement de lui par crainte des Juifs.
