They came to Ecbatana, and arrived at the house of Raguel. But Sarah met them; and she greeted them, and they her. Then she brought them into the house. Raguel said to Edna his wife, “This young man really resembles Tobit my cousin!” And Raguel asked them, “Where are you two from, kindred?” They said to him, “We are of the sons of Naphtali, who are captives in Nineveh.” He said to them, “Do you know Tobit our brother?” They said, “We know him.” Then he said to them, “Is he in good health?” They said, “He is both alive, and in good health.” Tobias said, “He is my father.” And Raguel sprang up, and kissed him, wept, blessed him, and said to him, “You are the son of an honest and good man.” When he had heard that Tobit had lost his sight, he was grieved, and wept; and Edna his wife and Sarah his daughter wept. They received them gladly; and they killed a ram of the flock, and served them meat. But Tobias said to Raphael, “Brother Azarias, speak of those things of which you talked about in the way, and let the matter be finished.” So he communicated the thing to Raguel. Raguel said to Tobias, “Eat, drink, and make merry: for it belongs to you to take my child. However I will tell you the truth. I have given my child to seven men, and whenever they came in to her, they died in the night. But for the present be merry.” And Tobias said, “I will taste nothing here, until you all make a covenant and enter into that covenant with me.” Raguel said, “Take her to yourself from now on according to custom. You are her relative, and she is yours. The merciful God will give all good success to you.” And he called his daughter Sarah, and took her by the hand, and gave her to be wife of Tobias, and said, “Behold, take her to yourself after the law of Moses, and lead her away to your father.” And he blessed them. He called Edna his wife, then took a book, wrote a contract, and sealed it. Then they began to eat. And Raguel called his wife Edna, and said to her, “Sister, prepare the other chamber, and bring her in there.” She did as he asked her, and brought her in there. She wept, and she received the tears of her daughter, and said to her, “Be comforted, my child. May the Lord of heaven and earth give you favor for this your sorrow. Be comforted, my daughter.”

Gesù prese di nuovo ad insegnare presso il mare: e una gran moltitudine si radunò intorno a lui; talché egli, montato in una barca, vi sedette stando in mare, mentre tutta la moltitudine era a terra sulla riva. Ed egli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento: Udite: Ecco, il seminatore uscì a seminare. Ed avvenne che mentre seminava, una parte del seme cadde lungo la strada; e gli uccelli vennero e lo mangiarono. Ed un’altra cadde in un suolo roccioso ove non avea molta terra; e subito spuntò, perché non avea terreno profondo; ma quando il sole si levò, fu riarsa; perché non aveva radice, si seccò. Ed un’altra cadde fra le spine; e le spine crebbero e l’affogarono e non fece frutto. Ed altre parti caddero nella buona terra; e portaron frutto che venne su e crebbe, e giunsero a dare qual trenta, qual sessanta e qual cento. Poi disse: Chi ha orecchi da udire oda. Quand’egli fu in disparte, quelli che gli stavano intorno coi dodici, lo interrogarono sulle parabole. Ed egli disse loro: A voi è dato di conoscere il mistero del regno di Dio; ma a quelli che son di fuori, tutto è presentato per via di parabole, affinché: vedendo, vedano sì, ma non discernano; udendo, odano sì, ma non intendano; che talora non si convertano, e i peccati non siano loro rimessi. Poi disse loro: Non intendete voi questa parabola? E come intenderete voi tutte le parabole? Il seminatore semina la Parola. Quelli che sono lungo la strada, sono coloro nei quali è seminata la Parola; e quando l’hanno udita, subito viene Satana e porta via la Parola seminata in loro. E parimente quelli che ricevono la semenza in luoghi rocciosi sono coloro che, quando hanno udito la Parola, la ricevono subito con allegrezza; e non hanno in sé radice ma son di corta durata; e poi, quando venga tribolazione o persecuzione a cagion della Parola, son subito scandalizzati. Ed altri sono quelli che ricevono la semenza fra le spine; cioè coloro che hanno udita la Parola; poi le cure mondane e l’inganno delle ricchezze e le cupidigie delle altre cose, penetrati in loro, affogano la Parola, e così riesce infruttuosa. Quelli poi che hanno ricevuto il seme in buona terra, sono coloro che odono la Parola e l’accolgono e fruttano qual trenta, qual sessanta e qual cento. Poi diceva ancora: Si reca forse la lampada per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? Non è ella recata per esser messa sul candeliere? Poiché non v’è nulla che sia nascosto se non in vista d’esser manifestato; e nulla è stato tenuto segreto, se non per esser messo in luce. Se uno ha orecchi da udire oda. Diceva loro ancora: Ponete mente a ciò che voi udite. Con la misura con la quale misurate, sarà misurato a voi; e a voi sarà data anche la giunta; poiché a chi ha sarà dato, e a chi non ha, anche quello che ha gli sarà tolto. Diceva ancora: Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getti il seme in terra, e dorma e si levi, la notte e il giorno; il seme intanto germoglia e cresce nel modo ch’egli stesso ignora. La terra da se stessa dà il suo frutto: prima l’erba; poi la spiga; poi, nella spiga, il grano ben formato. E quando il frutto è maturo, subito e’ vi mette la falce perché la mietitura è venuta. Diceva ancora: A che assomiglieremo il regno di Dio, o con qual parabola lo rappresenteremo? Esso è simile ad un granello di senapa, il quale, quando lo si semina in terra, è il più piccolo di tutti i semi che son sulla terra; ma quando è seminato, cresce e diventa maggiore di tutti i legumi; e fa de’ rami tanto grandi, che all’ombra sua possono ripararsi gli uccelli del cielo. E con molte cosiffatte parabole esponeva loro la Parola, secondo che potevano intendere; e non parlava loro senza una parabola; ma in privato spiegava ogni cosa ai suoi discepoli. In quel medesimo giorno, fattosi sera, Gesù disse loro: Passiamo all’altra riva. E i discepoli, licenziata la moltitudine, lo presero, così com’era, nella barca. E vi erano delle altre barche con lui. Ed ecco levarsi un gran turbine di vento che cacciava le onde nella barca, talché ella già si riempiva. Or egli stava a poppa, dormendo sul guanciale. I discepoli lo destano e gli dicono: Maestro, non ti curi tu che noi periamo? Ed egli, destatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: Taci, calmati! E il vento cessò, e si fece gran bonaccia. Ed egli disse loro: Perché siete così paurosi? Come mai non avete voi fede? Ed essi furon presi da gran timore e si dicevano gli uni agli altri: Chi è dunque costui, che anche il vento ed il mare gli obbediscono?

When they had finished their supper, they brought Tobias in to her. But as he went, he remembered the words of Raphael, and took the ashes of the incense, and put the heart and the liver of the fish on them, and made smoke with them. When the demon smelled that smell, it fled into the uppermost parts of Egypt, and the angel bound him. But after they were both shut in together, Tobias rose up from the bed, and said, “Sister, arise, and let us pray that the Lord may have mercy on us.” And Tobias began to say, “Blessed are you, O God of our fathers, and blessed is your holy and glorious name forever. Let the heavens bless you, and all your creatures. You made Adam, and gave him Eve his wife for a helper and support. From them came the seed of men. You said, it is not good that the man should be alone. Let us make him a helper like him. And now, O Lord, I take not this my sister for lust, but in truth. Command that I may find mercy and grow old with her.” She said with him, “Amen.” And they both slept that night. Raguel arose, and went and dug a grave, saying, “Lest he also should die.” And Raguel came into his house, and said to Edna his wife, “Send one of the maidservants, and let them see if he is alive. If not, we will bury him, and no man will know it.” So the maidservant opened the door, and went in, and found them both sleeping, and came out, and told them that he was alive. Then Raguel blessed God, saying, “Blessed are you, O God, with all pure and holy blessing! Let your saints bless you, and all your creatures! Let all your angels and your elect bless you forever! Blessed are you, because you have made me glad; and it has not happened me as I suspected; but you have dealt with us according to your great mercy. Blessed are you, because you have had mercy on two that were the only begotten children of their parents. Show them mercy, O Lord. Fulfill their life in health with gladness and mercy. He commanded his servants to fill the grave. He kept the wedding feast for them fourteen days. Before the days of the wedding feast were finished, Raguel sware to him, that he should not depart till the fourteen days of the wedding feast were fulfilled; and that then he should take half of his goods, and go in safety to his father; and the rest, said he, when my wife and I die.

Or quanto alla colletta per i santi, come ho ordinato alle chiese di Galazia, così fate anche voi. Ogni primo giorno della settimana ciascun di voi metta da parte a casa quel che potrà secondo la prosperità concessagli, affinché, quando verrò, non ci sian più collette da fare. E quando sarò giunto, quelli che avrete approvati, io li manderò con lettere a portare la vostra liberalità a Gerusalemme; e se converrà che ci vada anch’io, essi verranno meco. Io poi mi recherò da voi, quando sarò passato per la Macedonia; perché passerò per la Macedonia; ma da voi forse mi fermerò alquanto, ovvero anche passerò l’inverno, affinché voi mi facciate proseguire per dove mi recherò. Perché, questa volta, io non voglio vedervi di passaggio; poiché spero di fermarmi qualche tempo da voi, se il Signore lo permette. Ma mi fermerò in Efeso fino alla Pentecoste, perché una larga porta mi è qui aperta ad un lavoro efficace, e vi son molti avversari. Or se viene Timoteo, guardate che stia fra voi senza timore; perch’egli lavora nell’opera del Signore, come faccio anch’io. Nessuno dunque lo sprezzi; ma fatelo proseguire in pace, affinché venga da me; poiché io l’aspetto coi fratelli. Quanto al fratello Apollo, io l’ho molto esortato a recarsi da voi coi fratelli; ma egli assolutamente non ha avuto volontà di farlo adesso; andrà però quando ne avrà l’opportunità. Vegliate, state fermi nella fede, portatevi virilmente, fortificatevi. Tutte le cose vostre sian fatte con carità. Or, fratelli, voi conoscete la famiglia di Stefana; sapete che è la primizia dell’Acaia, e che si è dedicata al servizio dei santi; io v’esorto a sottomettervi anche voi a cotali persone, e a chiunque lavora e fatica nell’opera comune. E io mi rallegro della venuta di Stefana, di Fortunato e d’Acaico, perché essi hanno riempito il vuoto prodotto dalla vostra assenza; poiché hanno ricreato lo spirito mio ed il vostro; sappiate apprezzare cotali persone. Le chiese dell’Asia vi salutano. Aquila e Priscilla, con la chiesa che è in casa loro, vi salutano molto nel Signore. Tutti i fratelli vi salutano. Salutatevi gli uni gli altri con un santo bacio. Il saluto, di mia propria mano: di me, Paolo. Se qualcuno non ama il Signore, sia anatema. Maràn-atà. La grazia del Signor Gesù sia con voi. L’amor mio è con tutti voi in Cristo Gesù.
