A wise judge will instruct his people; And the government of a man of understanding will be well ordered. As is the judge of his people, so are his ministers; And as is the ruler of the city, such are all those who dwell therein. An uninstructed king will destroy his people; And a city will be established through the understanding of the powerful. In the hand of the Lord is the authority of the earth; And in due time he will raise up over it one that is profitable. In the hand of the Lord is the prosperity of a man; And upon the person of the scribe will he lay his honor. Be not angry with your neighbor for every wrong; And do nothing by works of violence. Pride is hateful before the Lord and before men; And in the judgement of both will unrighteousness err. Sovereignty is transferred from nation to nation, Because of iniquities, and deeds of violence, and greed of money. Why is earth and ashes proud? Because in his life he has cast away his bowels. It is a long disease; the physician mocketh: And he is a king today, and tomorrow he will die. For when a man is dead, He will inherit creeping things, and beasts, and worms. It is the beginning of pride when a man departs from the Lord; And his heart is departed from him that made him. For the beginning of pride is sin; And he that keeps it will pour forth abomination. For this cause the Lord brought upon them strange calamities, And overthrew them utterly. The Lord cast down the thrones of rulers, And set the meek in their stead. The Lord plucked up the roots of nations, And planted the lowly in their stead. The Lord overthrew the lands of nations, And destroyed them to the foundations of the earth. He took some of them away, and destroyed them, And made their memorial to cease from the earth. Pride has not been created for men, Nor wrathful anger for the offspring of women. What manner of seed has honor? the seed of man. What manner of seed has honor? those who fear the Lord. What manner of seed has no honor? the seed of man. What manner of seed has no honor? those who transgress the commandments. In the midst of kindred he that rules them has honor; And in the eyes of the Lord those who fear him. The rich man, and the honorable, and the poor, Their glorying is the fear of the Lord. It is not right to dishonor a poor man that has understanding; And it is not fitting to glorify a man that is a sinner. The great man, and the judge, and the mighty man, will be glorified; And there is not one of them greater than he that fears the Lord. Free men will minister to a wise servant; And a man that has knowledge will not murmur thereat. Be not over wise in doing your work; And glorify not yourself in the time of your distress. Better is he that labores, and abounds in all things, Than he that glorifieth himself, and lacketh bread. My son, glorify your soul in meekness, And give it honor according to the worthiness thereof. Who will justify him that sins against his own soul? And who will glorify him that dishonors his own life? A poor man is glorified for his knowledge; And a rich man is glorified for his riches. But he that is glorified in poverty, how much more in riches? And he that is inglorious in riches, how much more in poverty?

Luca 15

Toţi vameşii şi păcătoşii se apropiau de Isus ca să -L asculte. Şi Fariseii şi cărturarii cîrteau şi ziceau: ,,Omul acesta primeşte pe păcătoşi, şi mănîncă cu ei.`` Dar El le -a spus pilda aceasta: ,,Care om dintre voi, dacă are o sută de oi, şi pierde pe una din ele, nu lasă pe celelalte nouăzeci şi nouă pe islaz, şi se duce după cea pierdută, pînă cînd o găseşte? După ce a găsit -o, o pune cu bucurie pe umeri; şi, cînd se întoarce acasă, cheamă pe prietenii şi vecinii săi, şi le zice: ,Bucuraţi-vă împreună cu mine, căci mi-am găsit oaia care era pierdută.` Tot aşa, vă spun că va fi mai multă bucurie în cer pentru un singur păcătos care se pocăieşte, decît pentru nouă zeci şi nouă de oameni neprihăniţi cari n'au nevoie de pocăinţă. Sau care femeie, dacă are zece lei (Greceşte: drahme.) de argint, şi pierde unul din ei, nu aprinde o lumină, nu mătură casa, şi nu caută cu băgare de seamă pînă cînd îl găseşte? După ce l -a găsit, cheamă pe prietenele şi vecinele ei, şi zice: ,Bucuraţi-vă împreună cu mine, căci am găsit leul, pe care -l pierdusem.` Tot aşa, vă spun că este bucurie înaintea îngerilor lui Dumnezeu pentru un singur păcătos care se pocăieşte.`` El a mai zis: ,,Un om avea doi fii. Cel mai tînăr din ei a zis tatălui său: ,Tată, dă-mi partea de avere, ce mi se cuvine.` Şi tatăl le -a împărţit averea. Nu după multe zile, fiul cel mai tînăr a strîns totul, şi a plecat într'o ţară depărtată, unde şi -a risipit averea, ducînd o viaţă destrăbălată. După ce a cheltuit totul, a venit o foamete mare în ţara aceea, şi el a început să ducă lipsă. Atunci s'a dus şi s'a lipit de unul din locuitorii ţării aceleia, care l -a trimes pe ogoarele lui să -i păzească porcii. Mult ar fi dorit el să se sature cu roşcovele, pe cari le mîncau porcii, dar nu i le da nimeni. Şi -a venit în fire, şi a zis: ,Cîţi argaţi ai tatălui meu au belşug de pîne, iar eu mor de foame aici! Mă voi scula, mă voi duce la tatăl meu, şi -i voi zice: Tată, am păcătuit împotriva cerului şi împotriva ta, şi nu mai sînt vrednic să mă chem fiul tău; fă-mă ca pe unul din argaţii tăi.` Şi s'a sculat, şi a plecat la tatăl său. Cînd era încă departe, tatăl său l -a văzut, şi i s'a făcut milă de el, a alergat de a căzut pe grumazul lui, şi l -a sărutat mult. Fiul i -a zis: ,Tată, am păcătuit împotriva cerului şi împotriva ta, nu mai sînt vrednic să mă chem fiul tău.` Dar tatăl a zis robilor săi: ,Aduceţi repede haina cea mai bună, şi îmbrăcaţi -l cu ea; puneţi -i un inel în deget, şi încălţăminte în picioare. Aduceţi viţelul cel îngrăşat, şi tăiaţi -l. Să mîncăm şi să ne veselim; căci acest fiu al meu era mort, şi a înviat; era pierdut, şi a fost găsit.` Şi au început să se veselească. Fiul cel mai mare era la ogor. Cînd a venit şi s'a apropiat de casă, a auzit muzică şi jocuri. A chemat pe unul din robi, şi a început să -l întrebe ce este. Robul acela i -a răspuns: ,Fratele tău a venit înapoi, şi tatăl tău a tăiat viţelul cel îngrăşat, pentrucă l -a găsit iarăş sănătos şi bine.` El s'a întărîtat de mînie, şi nu voia să intre în casă. Tatăl său a ieşit afară, şi l -a rugat să intre. Dar el, drept răspuns, a zis tatălui său: ,Iată, eu îţi slujesc ca un rob de atîţia ani, şi niciodată nu ţi-am călcat porunca; şi mie niciodată nu mi-ai dat măcar un ied să mă veselesc cu prietenii mei; iar cînd a venit acest fiu al tău, care ţi -a mîncat averea cu femeile desfrînate, i-ai tăiat viţelul cel îngrăşat.` ,Fiule`, i -a zis tatăl, ,tu întotdeauna eşti cu mine, şi tot ce am eu este al tău. Dar trebuia să ne veselim şi să ne bucurăm, pentrucă acest frate al tău era mort, şi a înviat, era pierdut şi a fost găsit.``

The wisdom of the lowly will lift up his head, And make him to sit in the midst of great men. Commend not a man for his beauty; And abhor not a man for his outward appearance. The bee is little among such as fly; And her fruit is the chief of sweetmeats. Glory not in the putting on of raiment, And exalt not yourself in the day of honor; For the works of the Lord are wonderful, And his works are hidden among men. Many kings have sat down upon the ground; And one that was never thought of has worn a diadem. Many mighty men have been greatly disgraced; And men of renown have been delivered into other men’s hands. Blame not before you have examined: Understand first, and then rebuke. Answer not before you have heard; And interrupt not in the midst of speech. Strive not in a matter that concerns you not; And where sinners judge, sit not you with them. My son, be not busy about many matters: For if you meddle much, you will not be unpunished; And if you pursue, you will not overtake; And you will not escape by fleeing. There is one that toileth, and labores, and makes haste, And is so much the more behind. There is one that is sluggish, and has need of help, Lacking in strength, and that abounds in poverty; And the eyes of the Lord looked upon him for good, And he set him up from his low estate, And lifted up his head; And many marveled at him. Good things and evil, life and death, Poverty and riches, are from the Lord. The gift of the Lord remains with the godly, And his good pleasure will prosper forever. There is that waxes rich by his wariness and pinching, And this is the portion of his reward: When he says, I have found rest, And now will I eat of my goods; Yet he knows not what time will pass, And he will leave them to others, and die. Be stedfast in your covenant, and be conversant therein, And wax old in your work. Marvel not at the works of a sinner; But trust the Lord, and abide in your labor: For it is an easy thing in the sight of the Lord swiftly on the sudden to make a poor man rich. The blessing of the Lord is in the reward of the godly; And in an hour that comes swiftly he makes his blessing to flourish. Say not, What use is there of me? And what from henceforth will my good things be? Say not, I have sufficient, And from henceforth what harm will happen to me? In the day of good things there is a forgetfulness of evil things; And in the day of evil things a man will not remember things that are good. For it is an easy thing in the sight of the Lord To reward a man in the day of death according to his ways. The affliction of an hour causes forgetfulness of delight; And in the last end of a man is the revelation of his deeds. Call no man blessed before his death; And a man will be known in his children. Bring not every man into your house; For many are the plots of the deceitful man. As a decoy partridge in a cage, so is the heart of a proud man; And as one that is a spy, he looks upon your falling. For he lies in wait to turn things that are good into evil; And in things that are praiseworthy he will lay blame. From a spark of fire a heap of many coals is kindled; And a sinful man lies in wait for blood. Take heed of an evil-doer, for he contriveth wicked things; Lest haply he bring upon you blame forever. Receive a stranger into your house, and he will distract you with brawls, And estrange you from your own.

Filipeni 3

Încolo, fraţii mei, bucuraţi-vă în Domnul. Păziţi-vă de cînii aceia; păziţi-vă de lucrătorii aceia răi; păziţi-vă de scrîjilaţii aceia! Căci cei tăiaţi împrejur sîntem noi, cari slujim lui Dumnezeu, prin Duhul lui Dumnezeu, cari ne lăudăm în Hristos Isus, şi cari nu ne punem încrederea în lucrurile pămînteşti. Măcar că eu aş avea pricină de încredere chiar în lucrurile pămînteşti. Dacă altul crede că se poate încrede în lucrurile pămînteşti, eu şi mai mult; eu, care sînt tăiat împrejur a opta zi, din neamul lui Israel, din seminţia lui Beniamin, Evreu din Evrei; în ce priveşte Legea, Fariseu; în ce priveşte rîvna, prigonitor al Bisericii; cu privire la neprihănirea, pe care o dă Legea, fără prihană. Dar lucrurile, cari pentru mine erau cîştiguri, le-am socotit ca o pierdere, din pricina lui Hristos. Ba încă, şi acum privesc toate aceste lucruri ca o pierdere, faţă de preţul nespus de mare al cunoaşterii lui Hristos Isus, Domnul meu. Pentru El am perdut toate şi le socotesc ca un gunoi, ca să cîştig pe Hristos, şi să fiu găsit în El, nu avînd o neprihănire a mea, pe care mi -o dă Legea, ci aceea care se capătă prin credinţa în Hristos, neprihănirea, pe care o dă Dumnezeu, prin credinţă. Şi să -L cunosc pe El şi puterea învierii Lui şi părtăşia suferinţelor Lui, şi să mă fac asemenea cu moartea Lui; ca să ajung cu orice chip, dacă voi putea, la învierea din morţi. Nu că am şi cîştigat premiul, sau că am şi ajuns desăvîrşit; dar alerg înainte, căutînd să -l apuc, întrucît şi eu am fost apucat de Hristos Isus. Fraţilor, eu nu cred că l-am apucat încă; dar fac un singur lucru: uitînd ce este în urma mea, şi aruncîndu-mă spre ce este înainte, alerg spre ţintă, pentru premiul chemării cereşti a lui Dumnezeu, în Hristos Isus. Gîndul acesta dar să ne însufleţească pe toţi, cari sîntem desăvîrşiţi; şi dacă în vreo privinţă sînteţi de altă părere, Dumnezeu vă va lumina şi în această privinţă. Dar în lucrurile în cari am ajuns de aceeaş părere, să umblăm la fel. Urmaţi-mă pe mine, fraţilor, şi uitaţi-vă bine la cei ce se poartă după pilda, pe care o aveţi în noi. Căci v'am spus de multe ori, şi vă mai spun şi acum, plîngînd: sînt mulţi, cari se poartă ca vrăjmaşi ai crucii lui Hristos. Sfîrşitul lor va fi pierzarea. Dumenzeul lor este pîntecele şi slava lor este în ruşinea lor, şi se gîndesc la lucrurile de pe pămînt. Dar cetăţenia noastră este în ceruri, de unde şi aşteptăm ca Mîntuitor pe Domnul Isus Hristos. El va schimba trupul stării noastre smerite, şi -l va face asemenea trupului slavei Sale, prin lucrarea puterii pe care o are de a-Şi supune toate lucrurile.
