Not so he that has applied his soul, And meditateth in the law of the Most High; He will seek out the wisdom of all the ancients, And will be occupied in prophecies. He will keep the discourse of the men of renown, And will enter in amidst the subtleties of parables. He will seek out the hidden meaning of proverbs, And be conversant in the dark sayings of parables. He will serve among great men, And appear before him that rules: He will travel through the land of strange nations; For he has tried good things and evil among men. He will apply his heart to resort early to the Lord that made him, And will make supplication before the Most High, And will open his mouth in prayer, And will make supplication for his sins. If the great Lord will, He shall be filled with the spirit of understanding: He shall pour forth the words of his wisdom, And in prayer give thanks to the Lord. He shall direct his counsel and knowledge, And in his secrets shall he meditate. He shall show forth the instruction which he has been taught, And shall glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord. Many shall commend his understanding; And so long as the world endures, it shall not be blotted out: His memorial shall not depart, And his name shall live from generation to generation. Nations shall declare his wisdom, And the congregation shall tell out his praise. If he continue, he shall leave a greater name than a thousand: And if he die, he adds thereto. Yet more will I utter, which I have thought upon; And I am filled as the moon at the full. Hearken to me, you⌃ holy children, And bud forth as a rose growing by a brook of water: And give you⌃ a sweet savor as frankencense, And put forth flowers as a lily, Spread abroad a sweet smell, and sing a song of praise; Bless you⌃ the Lord for all his works. Magnify his name, And give utterance to his praise With the songs of your lips, and with harps; And thus shall you⌃ say when you⌃ utter his praise: All the works of the Lord are exceeding good, And every command shall be accomplished in his season. None can say, What is this? wherefore is that? For in his season they shall all be sought out. At his word the waters stood as a heap, And the receptacles of waters at the word of his mouth. At his command is all his good pleasure done; And there is none that shall hinder his salvation. The works of all flesh are before him; And it is not possible to be hid from his eyes. He sees from everlasting to everlasting; And there is nothing wonderful before him. None can say, What is this? wherefore is that? For all things are created for their uses. His blessing covered the dry land as a river, And saturated it as a flood. As he has turned the waters into saltness; So shall the heathen inherit his wrath. His ways are plain to the holy; So are they stumbling blocks to the wicked. Good things are created from the beginning for the good; So are evil things for sinners. The chief of all things necessary for the life of man Are water, and fire, and iron, and salt, And flour of wheat, and honey, and milk, The blood of the grape, and oil, and clothing. All these things are for good to the godly; So to the sinners they shall be turned into evil. There be winds that are created for vengeance, And in their fury lay on their scourges heavily; In the time of consummation they pour out their strength, And shall appease the wrath of him that made them. Fire, and hail, and famine, and death, All these are created for vengeance; Teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions and adders, And a sword punishing the ungodly to destruction. They shall rejoice in his commandment, And shall be made ready upon earth, when need is; And in their seasons they shall not transgress his word. Therefore from the beginning I was resolved, And I thought this, and left it in writing; All the works of the Lord are good: And he will supply every need in its season. And none can say, This is worse than that: For they shall all be well approved in their season. And now with all your heart and mouth sing you⌃ praises, And bless the name of the Lord.

Після того юдейське Свято було, і до Єрусалиму Ісус відійшов. А в Єрусалимі, біля брами Овечої, є купальня, Віфесда́ по-єврейському зветься, що мала п'ять ґа́нків. У них лежало багато слабих, сліпих, кривих, сухих, що чекали, щоб воду пору́шено. Бо ангол Господній часами спускавсь до купальні, і порушував воду, і хто перший ула́зив, як воду пору́шено, той здоровим ставав, хоч би яку мав хворо́бу. А був там один чоловік, що тридцять і вісім ро́ків був недужим. Як Ісус його вгледів, що лежить, та, відаючи, що багато він ча́су слабує, говорить до нього: „Хочеш бути здоровим?“ Відповів Йому хворий: „Пане, я не маю люди́ни, щоб вона, як порушено воду, до купа́льні всадила мене. А коли я прихо́джу, то передо мною вже інший ула́зить“. Говорить до нього Ісус: „Уставай, візьми ложе своє — та й ходи!“ І зараз одужав оцей чоловік, і взяв ложе своє — та й ходив. Того ж дня субота була́, тому́ то сказали юдеї вздоро́вленому: „Є субота, і не годиться тобі брати ложа свого“. А він відповів їм: „Хто мене вздоро́вив, Той до мене сказав: Візьми ложе своє — та й ходи“. А вони запитали його: „Хто Той Чоловік, що до тебе сказав: Візьми ложе своє — та й ходи?“ Та не знав уздоро́влений, Хто то Він, бо Ісус ухиливсь від наро́ду, що був на тім місці. Після того Ісус стрів у храмі його, та й промовив до нього: „Ось ви́дужав ти. Не гріши ж уже більше, щоб не сталось тобі чого гіршого!“ Чоловік же пішов і юдеям звістив, що Той, Хто вздоро́вив його, то Ісус. І тому́ зачали́ юдеї переслідувати Ісуса, що таке Він чинив у суботу. А Ісус відповів їм: „Отець Мій працює аж досі, — працюю і Я“. І тому́ то юдеї ще більш намагалися вбити Його, що не тільки суботу пору́шував Він, але й Бога Отцем Своїм звав, тим ро́блячись Богові рівним. Відповів же Ісус і сказав їм: „Поправді, поправді кажу́ вам: Син нічо́го робити не може Сам від Себе, тільки те, що Він бачить, що ро́бить Отець; бо що робить Він, те так само й Син ро́бить. Бо Отець любить Сина, і показує все, що Сам робить, Йому. І покаже Йому діла більші від цих, щоб ви дивува́лись. Бо як мертвих Отець воскрешає й ожи́влює, так і Син, кого хоче, ожи́влює. Бо Отець і не судить ніко́го, а ввесь суд віддав Синові, щоб усі шанували і Сина, як шанують Отця. Хто не шанує Сина, — не шанує Отця, що послав Його. Поправді, поправді кажу вам: Хто слухає сло́ва Мого, і вірує в Того, Хто послав Мене, — життя вічне той має, і на суд не прихо́дить, але перейшов він від смерти в життя. Поправді, поправді кажу́ вам: Наступає година, і тепер уже є, коли голос Божого Сина почують померлі, а ті, що почують, оживуть. Бо як має Отець життя Сам у Собі, так і Синові дав життя мати в Самому Собі. І Він дав Йому силу чинити і суд, бо Він — Людський Син. Не дивуйтесь цьому́, бо надхо́дить година, коли всі, хто в гроба́х, — Його голос почують, і повихо́дять ті, що чинили добро, на воскре́сення життя, а котрі́ зло чинили, на воскре́сення Су́ду. Я нічого не мо́жу роби́ти Сам від Себе. Як Я чую, суджу́, і Мій суд справедливий, — не шукаю бо волі Своєї, але волі Отця, що послав Мене. Коли сві́дчу про Себе Я Сам, то свідо́цтво Моє неправдиве. Є Інший, Хто сві́дчить про Мене, і Я знаю, що правдиве свідо́цтво, яким сві́дчить про Мене. Ви послали були́ до Івана, і він сві́дчив про правду. Та Я не від людини свідо́цтва приймаю, але це говорю́, щоб були ви спасені. Він світильником був, що горів і світив, та ви тільки хвилю хотіли поті́шитись світлом його. Але Я маю свідчення більше за Іванове, бо ті справи, що Отець Мені дав, щоб Я виконав їх, ті справи, що Я їх чиню́, самі сві́дчать про Мене, що Отець Мене послав! Та й Отець, що послав Мене, Сам засві́дчив про Мене; але ви ані голосу Його не чули ніко́ли, ані виду Його не бачили. Навіть сло́ва Його ви не маєте, щоб у вас перебува́ло, бо не вірите в То́го, Кого Він послав. Дослідіть но Писа́ння, бо ви ду́маєте, що в них маєте вічне життя, — вони ж сві́дчать про Мене! Та до Мене прийти ви не хочете, щоб мати життя. Від людей не приймаю Я слави, але вас Я пізнав, що любови до Бога в собі ви не маєте. Я прийшов у Йме́ння Свого Отця, та Мене не приймаєте ви. Коли ж при́йде інший у йме́ння своє, того при́ймете ви. Як ви можете вірувати, коли славу один від одно́го приймаєте, а слави тієї, що від Бога Єдиного, не пра́гнете ви? Не думайте, що Я перед Отцем буду вас винуватити, — є, хто вас винуватити бу́де, — Мойсей, що на нього наді́єтесь ви! Коли́ б ви Мойсеєві вірили, то й Мені б ви повірили, бо про Мене писав він. Якщо писа́нням його ви не вірите, то як віри поймете словам Моїм?“

Great travail is created for every man, And a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, From the day of their coming forth from their mother’s womb, Until the day for their burial in the mother of all things. The expectation of things to come, and the day of death, Trouble their thoughts, and cause fear of heart; From him that sits on a throne of glory, Even to him that is humbled in earth and ashes; From him that wears purple and a crown, Even to him that is clothed with a hempen frock. There is wrath, and jealousy, and trouble, and disquiet, And fear of death, and anger, and strife; And in the time of rest upon his bed His night sleep does change his knowledge. A little or nothing is his resting, And afterward in his sleep, as in a day of keeping watch, He is troubled in the vision of his heart, As one that has escaped from the front of battle. In the very time of his deliverance he awakens, And marvels that the fear is nothing. It is thus with all flesh, from man to beast, And upon sinners sevenfold more. Death, and bloodshed, and strife, and sword, Calamities, famine, tribulation, and the scourge; All these things were created for the wicked, And because of them came the flood. All things that are of the earth turn to the earth again: And all things that are of the waters return into the sea. All bribery and injustice shall be blotted out; And good faith shall stand forever. The goods of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, And like a great thunder in rain shall go off in noise. In opening his hands a man shall be made glad: So shall transgressors utterly fail. The children of the ungodly shall not put forth many branches; And are as unclean roots upon a sheer rock. The sedge that grows upon every water and bank of a river Shall be plucked up before all grass. Bounty is as a garden of blessings, And almsgiving endures forever. The life of one that labores, and is contented, shall be made sweet; And he that finds a treasure is above both. Children and the building of a city establish a man’s name; And a blameless wife is counted above both. Wine and music rejoice the heart; And the love of wisdom is above both. The pipe and the lute make pleasant melody; And a pleasant tongue is above both. Your eye shall desire grace and beauty; And above both the green blade of corn. A friend and a companion never meet amiss; And a wife with her husband is above both. Brethren and succour are for a time of affliction; And almsgiving is a deliverer above both. Gold and silver will make the foot stand sure; And counsel is esteemed above them both. Riches and strength will lift up the heart; And the fear of the Lord is above both: There is nothing lacking in the fear of the Lord, And there is no need to seek help therein. The fear of the Lord is as a garden of blessing, And covers a man above all glory. My son, lead not a beggar’s life; Better it is to die than to beg. A man that looks to the table of another, His life is not to be counted for a life; He will pollute his soul with another man’s meats: But a man wise and well-instructed will beware thereof. In the mouth of the shameless begging will be sweet; And in his belly a fire shall be kindled.

Павло, апо́стол Христа Ісуса, з волі Бога, Спасителя нашого й Христа Ісуса, надії нашої, до Тимофі́я, щирого сина за вірою: благода́ть, милість, мир від Бога Отця і Христа Ісуса, Господа нашого! Як я йшов у Македо́нію, я тебе вблага́в був позостатися в Ефе́сі, щоб ти декому наказав не навчати іншої науки, і не зверта́ти уваги на ви́гадки й на родоводи безкраї, що викликують більше сварки́, ніж збудува́ння Боже, що в вірі воно. Ціль же нака́зу — любов від чистого серця, і доброго сумління, і нелукавої віри. Дехто в тім прогрішили були та вдалися в пустомо́вність, — вони забажали бути вчителями Зако́ну, — та не розуміли ні того, що́ говорять, ні про що запевня́ють. А ми знаємо, що добрий Зако́н, коли хто зако́нно вживає його, та ві́дає те, що Зако́н не покладений для праведного, але для беззако́нних та для неслухня́них, нечестивих і грішників, безбожних та нечистих, для знева́жників батька та зневажників матері, для душогубців, розпусників, мужоложників, розбійників, неправдомовців, кривоприсяжників, і для всього іншого, що противне здоровій науці, за славною Єва́нгелією блаженного Бога, яка мені зві́рена. Я дяку складаю Тому, Хто зміцнив мене, — Христу Ісусу, Господу нашому, що мене за вірного визнав і поставив на службу, мене, що давніше був богознева́жник, і гноби́тель, і напасни́к, але був помилуваний, бо я те чинив нетяму́чий у невірстві. І бага́то збільши́лась у мені благодать Господа нашого з вірою та з любов'ю в Христі Ісусі. Вірне це слово, і гі́дне всякого прийняття́, що Христос Ісус прийшов у світ спасти́ грішних, із яких перший — то я. Але я тому́ був помилуваний, щоб Ісус Христос на першім мені показав усе довготерпіння, для при́кладу тим, що мають увірувати в Нього на вічне життя. А Цареві віків, нетлінному, невиди́мому, єдиному Богові честь і слава на вічні віки. Амінь. Цього нака́за я передаю тобі, сину мій Тимофіє, за тими пророцтвами, що про тебе давніше були, щоб ними провадив ти добру війну, маючи віру та добре сумління, якого дехто відкинулися та й розбилися в вірі. Серед них Гімене́й та Олександер, яких я передав сатані, щоб навчились вони не зневажати Бога.
