The memorial of Josiah is like the composition of incense Prepared by the work of the apothecary: It shall be sweet as honey in every mouth, And as music at a banquet of wine. He behaved himself uprightly in the conversion of the people, And took away the abominations of iniquity. He set his heart right toward the Lord; In the days of wicked men he made godliness to prevail. Except David and Hezekiah and Josiah, All committed trespass: For they forsook the law of the Most High; The kings of Judah failed. For they gave their power to others, And their glory to a strange nation. They set on fire the chosen city of the sanctuary, And made her streets desolate, as it was written by the hand of Jeremiah. For they entreated him evil; And yet he was sanctified in the womb to be a prophet, To root out, and to afflict, and to destroy; And in like manner to build and to plant. It was Ezekiel who saw the vision of glory, Which God showed him upon the chariot of the cherubim. For verily he remembered the enemies in storm, And to do good to those who directed their ways aright. Also of the twelve prophets May the bones flourish again out of their place. And he comforted Jacob, And delivered them by confidence of hope. How shall we magnify Zerubbabel? And he was as a signet on the right hand: So was Jesus the son of Josedek: Who in their days built the house, And exalted a people holy to the Lord, Prepared for everlasting glory. Also of Nehemiah the memorial is great; Who raised up for us the walls that were fallen, And set up the gates and bars, And raised up our homes again. No man was created upon the earth such as was Enoch; For he was taken up from the earth. Neither was there a man born like to Joseph, A governor of his kindred, a stay of the people: Yes, his bones were visited. Shem and Seth were glorified among men; And above every living thing in the creation is Adam.

,,Adevărat, adevărat, vă spun că, cine nu intră pe uşă în staulul oilor, ci sare pe altă parte, este un hoţ şi un tîlhar. Dar cine intră pe uşă, este păstorul oilor. Portarul îi deschide, şi oile aud glasul lui; el îşi cheamă oile pe nume, şi le scoate afară din staul. După ce şi -a scos toate oile, merge înaintea lor; şi oile merg după el, pentrucă îi cunosc glasul. Nu merg deloc după un străin; ci fug de el, pentrucă nu cunosc glasul străinilor.`` Isus le -a spus această pildă, dar ei n'au înţeles despre ce le vorbea. Isus le -a mai zis: ,,Adevărat, adevărat, vă spun că Eu sînt uşa oilor. Toţi ceice au venit înainte de Mine, sînt hoţi şi tîlhari; dar oile n'au ascultat de ei. Eu sînt Uşa. Dacă intră cineva prin Mine, va fi mîntuit; va intra şi va ieşi, şi va găsi păşune. Hoţul nu vine decît să fure, să junghie şi să prăpădească. Eu am venit ca oile să aibă viaţă, şi s'o aibă din belşug. Eu sînt Păstorul cel bun. Păstorul cel bun îşi dă viaţa pentru oi. Dar cel plătit, care nu este păstor, şi ale cărui oi nu sînt ale lui, cînd vede lupul venind, lasă oile şi fuge; şi lupul le răpeşte şi le împrăştie. Cel plătit fuge, pentrucă este plătit, şi nu -i pasă de oi. Eu sînt Păstorul cel bun. Eu Îmi cunosc oile Mele, şi ele Mă cunosc pe Mine, aşa cum Mă cunoaşte pe Mine Tatăl, şi cum cunosc Eu pe Tatăl; şi Eu Îmi dau viaţa pentru oile Mele. Mai am şi alte oi, cari nu sînt din staulul acesta; şi pe acelea trebuie să le aduc. Ele vor asculta de glasul Meu, şi va fi o turmă şi un Păstor. Tatăl Mă iubeşte, pentrucă Îmi dau viaţa, ca iarăş s'o iau. Nimeni nu Mi -o ia cu sila, ci o dau Eu dela Mine. Am putere s'o dau, şi am putere s'o iau iarăş: aceasta este porunca, pe care am primit -o dela Tatăl Meu.`` Din pricina acestor cuvinte, iarăş s'a făcut desbinare între Iudei. Mulţi dintre ei ziceau: ,,Are drac, este nebun; de ce -L ascultaţi?`` Alţii ziceau; ,,Cuvintele acestea nu sînt cuvinte de îndrăcit; poate un drac să deschidă ochii orbilor.`` În Ierusalim se prăznuia atunci praznicul Înoirii Templului. Era iarna. Şi Isus Se plimba prin Templu, pe supt pridvorul lui Solomon. Iudeii L-au înconjurat, şi I-au zis: ,,Pînă cînd ne tot ţii sufletele în încordare? Dacă eşti Hristosul, spune-ne -o desluşit.`` ,,V'am spus``, le -a răspuns Isus, ,,şi nu credeţi. Lucrările, pe cari le fac Eu, în Numele Tatălui Meu, ele mărturisesc despre Mine. Dar voi nu credeţi, pentrucă, după cum v'am spus, nu sînteţi din oile Mele. Oile Mele ascultă glasul Meu; Eu le cunosc, şi ele vin după Mine. Eu le dau viaţa vecinică, în veac nu vor pieri, şi nimeni nu le va smulge din mîna Mea. Tatăl Meu, care Mi le -a dat, este mai mare decît toţi; şi nimeni nu le poate smulge din mîna Tatălui Meu. Eu şi Tatăl una sîntem.`` Atunci Iudeii iarăş au luat pietre ca să -L ucidă. Isus le -a zis: ,,V'am arătat multe lucrări bune, cari vin dela Tatăl Meu: pentru care din aceste lucrări aruncaţi cu pietre în Mine?`` Iudeii I-au răspuns: ,,Nu pentru o lucrare bună aruncăm noi cu pietre în Tine, ci pentru o hulă, şi pentrucă Tu, care eşti un om, Te faci Dumnezeu.`` Isus le -a răspuns: ,,Nu este scris în Legea voastră: ,Eu am zis: Sînteţi dumnezei?` Dacă Legea a numit ,dumnezei`, pe aceia, cărora le -a vorbit Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, -şi Scriptura nu poate fi desfinţată, - cum ziceţi voi că hulesc Eu, pe care Tatăl M'a sfinţit şi M'a trimes în lume? Şi aceasta, pentrucă am zis: ,Sînt Fiul lui Dumnezeu!` Dacă nu fac lucrările Tatălui Meu, să nu Mă credeţi. Dar dacă le fac, chiar dacă nu Mă credeţi pe Mine, credeţi măcar lucrările acestea, ca să ajungeţi să cunoaşteţi şi să ştiţi că Tatăl este în Mine şi Eu sînt în Tatăl.`` La auzul acestor vorbe, căutau iarăş să -L prindă; dar El a scăpat din mînile lor. Isus S'a dus iarăş dincolo de Iordan, în locul unde botezase Ioan la început. Şi a rămas acolo. Mulţi veneau la El, şi ziceau: ,,Ioan n'a făcut nici un semn; dar tot ce a spus Ioan despre omul acesta, era adevărat.`` Şi mulţi au crezut în El în locul acela.

It was Simon, the son of Onias, the great priest, Who in his life repaired the house, And in his days strengthened the temple: And by him was built from the foundation the height of the double wall, The lofty underworks of the inclosure of the temple: In his days the cistern of waters was diminished, The brazen vessel in compass as the sea. It was he that took thought for his people that they should not fall, And fortified the city against besieging: How glorious was he when the people gathered round him At his coming forth out of the sanctuary! As the morning star in the midst of a cloud, As the moon at the full: As the sun shining forth upon the temple of the Most High, And as the rainbow giving light in clouds of glory: As the flower of roses in the days of new fruits, As lilies at the waterspring, As the shoot of the frankencense tree in the time of summer: As fire and incense in the censer, As a vessel all of beaten gold Adorned with all manner of precious stones: As an olive tree budding forth fruits, And as a cypress growing high among the clouds. When he took up the robe of glory, And put on the perfection of exultation, In the ascent of the holy altar, He made glorious the precinct of the sanctuary. And when he received the portions out of the priests’ hands, Himself also standing by the hearth of the altar, His kindred as a garland round about him, He was as a young cedar in Libanus; And as stems of palm trees compassed they him round about, And all the sons of Aaron in their glory, And the Lord’s offering in their hands, before all the congregation of Israel. And finishing the service at the altars, That he might adorn the offering of the Most High, the Almighty, He stretched out his hand to the cup, And poured out the cup of the grape; He poured out at the foot of the altar A sweet smelling savor to the Most High, the King of all. Then shouted the sons of Aaron, They sounded the trumpets of beaten work, They made a great noise to be heard, For a remembrance before the Most High. Then all the people together hurried, And fell down upon the earth on their faces To worship their Lord, the Almighty, God Most High. The singers also praised him with their voices; In the whole house was there made sweet melody. And the people implored the Lord Most High, In prayer before him that is merciful. Till the worship of the Lord should be ended; And so they accomplished his service. Then he went down, and lifted up his hands Over the whole congregation of the children of Israel, To give blessing to the Lord with his lips, And to glory in his name. And he bowed himself down in worship the second time, To declare the blessing from the Most High. And now bless you⌃ the God of all, Which everywhere does great things, Which exalts our days from the womb, And deals with us according to his mercy. May he grant us joyfulness of heart, And that peace may be in our days in Israel for the days of eternity: To intrust his mercy with us; And let him deliver us in his time! With two nations is my soul vexed, And the third is no nation: They that sit upon the mountain of Samaria, and the Philistines, And that foolish people that dwells in Sichem. I have written in this book the instruction of understanding and knowledge, I Jesus, the son of Sirach Eleazar, of Jerusalem, Who out of his heart poured forth wisdom. Blessed is he that shall be exercised in these things; And he that lays them up in his heart shall become wise. For if he do them, he shall be strong to all things: For the light of the Lord is his guide.

2 Timotei 1

Pavel, apostol al lui Hristos Isus, prin voia lui Dumnezeu, după făgăduinţa vieţii care este în Hristos Isus, către Timotei, copilul meu prea iubit: Har, îndurare şi pace dela Dumnezeu Tatăl, şi dela Hristos Isus, Domnul nostru! Mulţămesc lui Dumnezeu, căruia Îi slujesc cu un cuget curat, din moşi strămoşi, că neîntrerupt te pomenesc în rugăciunile mele, zi şi noapte. Căci mi-aduc aminte de lacrămile tale, şi doresc să te văd, ca să mă umplu de bucurie. Îmi aduc aminte de credinţa ta neprefăcută, care s'a sălăşluit întîi în bunica ta Lois şi în mama ta Eunice, şi sînt încredinţat că şi în tine. De aceea îţi aduc aminte să înflăcărezi darul lui Dumnezeu, care este în tine prin punerea mînilor mele. Căci Dumnezeu nu ne -a dat un duh de frică, ci de putere, de dragoste şi de chibzuinţă. Să nu-ţi fie ruşine dar de mărturisirea Domnului nostru, nici de mine, întemniţatul Lui. Ci sufere împreună cu Evanghelia, prin puterea lui Dumezeu. El ne -a mîntuit şi ne -a dat o chemare sfîntă, nu pentru faptele noastre, ci după hotărîrea Lui şi după harul care ne -a fost dat în Hristos Isus, înainte de vecinicii, dar care a fost descoperit acum prin arătarea Mîntuitorului nostru Hristos Isus, care a nimicit moartea şi a adus la lumină viaţa şi neputrezirea, prin Evanghelie. Propovăduitorul şi apostolul ei am fost pus eu şi învăţător al Neamurilor. Şi din pricina aceasta sufăr aceste lucruri; dar nu mi -e ruşine, căci ştiu în cine am crezut. Şi sînt încredinţat că El are putere să păzească ce I-am încredinţat pînă în ziua aceea. Dreptarul învăţăturilor sănătoase, pe cari le-ai auzit dela mine, ţine -l cu credinţa şi dragostea care este în Hristos Isus. Lucrul acela bun care ţi s'a încredinţat, păzeşte -l prin Duhul Sfînt, care locuieşte în noi. Ştii că cei ce sînt în Asia toţi m'au părăsit; între alţii şi Figel şi Ermogen. Domnul să-şi verse îndurarea peste casa lui Onisifor; căci de multe ori m'a mîngîiat, şi nu i -a fost ruşine de lanţul meu. Nu numai atît, dar, cînd a fost în Roma, m'a căutat cu multă grijă şi m'a găsit. Dea Domnul să capete îndurare dela Domnul ,,în ziua aceea``. Tu ştii foarte bine cît ajutor mi -a dat el în Efes.
