Solemnity

Christ the King

Feast day
November 26

Life

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, celebrates Christ's sovereignty over all creation and every human institution. Pope Pius XI established the feast in 1925 with the encyclical Quas Primas, responding to rising secularism. In the current Roman calendar it is celebrated on the final Sunday of the liturgical year, just before Advent.
