Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850–1917) was the first United States citizen to be canonized a saint. Born in Italy, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and crossed the ocean to serve Italian immigrants, establishing dozens of schools, hospitals, and orphanages across the Americas. Fittingly named patron of immigrants, she is honored on November 13.
