Life

The Blessed Virgin Mary is honored on the first day of the year under her most ancient title, Mother of God (Theotokos), solemnly affirmed at the Council of Ephesus in 431. As the one through whom the Son of God entered the world, she is venerated above all other saints. The solemnity closes the Octave of Christmas and entrusts the new year to her maternal care.
