Life
Columban (c. 543-615) was an Irish missionary monk who left his homeland to evangelize continental Europe, founding great monasteries including Luxeuil in Gaul and Bobbio in Italy, where he died. His strict monastic rule and energetic preaching helped renew Christian life in post-Roman Europe. He is honored as a patron of motorcyclists.
