Life
Josaphat Kuntsevych (c. 1580–1623), a Basilian monk and Archbishop of Polotsk, devoted himself to reconciling Eastern and Western Christianity under the Union of Brest. His zeal for unity provoked fierce opposition, and he was murdered by a mob in Vitebsk. The first Eastern saint formally canonized by Rome, this patron of Ukraine is honored on November 12.
