Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles fifty days after Easter, when tongues as of fire rested on them and they began to preach the Gospel to all nations, as recounted in the Acts of the Apostles. Often called the birthday of the Church, it brings the Easter season to its close and celebrates the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit among believers.
