Anthony of Padua, born in Lisbon in 1195, was a Franciscan friar and Doctor of the Church renowned for his powerful preaching and his gift for finding lost things. One of the most beloved and widely invoked saints, he died near Padua in 1231 and was canonized within a year. Patron of lost things and the poor, he is honored each June 13.
