Life

Peter, the rock on whom Christ built his Church and first among the apostles, and Paul, the tireless apostle to the Gentiles and author of much of the New Testament, are celebrated together as the twin pillars of the Church. Both were martyred in Rome under Nero around 64. This solemnity honors them as patrons of Rome and the universal Church.
