Life

The Presentation of the Lord commemorates the bringing of the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem forty days after his birth, in accordance with the Law of Moses, where the elderly Simeon and the prophetess Anna recognized him as the Messiah. Simeon hailed him as a light to the nations, and the feast is traditionally marked by the blessing of candles, giving it the popular name Candlemas.
