Life

Blaise was a physician and Bishop of Sebastea in Armenia, martyred in the early fourth century during the persecution of Licinius. Tradition holds that he healed a boy choking on a fishbone, and he is invoked for ailments of the throat; the blessing of throats with crossed candles is traditionally given on his feast day. He is counted among the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
