Life

Seven prosperous Florentine merchants renounced their worldly lives around 1233 and withdrew to Monte Senario outside Florence to live in prayer and community. There they founded the Order of the Servants of Mary, the Servites, devoted especially to contemplating the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin. The seven founders were canonized together by Pope Leo XIII in 1888.
