Life
Barnabas, a Levite from Cyprus and kinsman of Mark, introduced the newly converted Paul to the apostles and accompanied him on his first missionary journey. Though not one of the Twelve, he is honored as an apostle and, by tradition, founded the Church of Cyprus, of which he is patron. Martyred around 61, he is remembered on June 11.
