Life
One of the Twelve Apostles, Bartholomew is generally identified with Nathanael, whom Philip brought to Jesus. Tradition holds he carried the Gospel to India and Armenia, where he was martyred by being flayed alive, which made him the patron of tanners. His feast on August 24 honors an eyewitness of Christ who died proclaiming the Risen Lord.
