Life
Born in Assisi in 1194, Clare was inspired by Saint Francis to renounce her wealth and found the Order of Poor Ladies, the Poor Clares, whose rule was the first for women written by a woman. She lived in radical poverty and prayer until her death in 1253. Named patron of television for a vision of Mass upon her wall, she is honored on August 11.
