The Transfiguration celebrates the moment when Jesus revealed his divine glory to Peter, James, and John on a high mountain, traditionally identified as Mount Tabor. Appearing in radiant light alongside Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, he was proclaimed beloved Son by the voice of the Father. Pope Callixtus III extended the feast to the universal Church in 1457.
