John Vianney (1786-1859), the Cure of Ars, transformed his small French parish through tireless prayer, fasting, and long hours in the confessional, where he was said to read hearts and reconcile sinners. Thousands of pilgrims journeyed to Ars for his counsel. Patron of parish priests, he died on August 4, his memorial.
