Life

Cyril was Patriarch of Alexandria from 412 to 444 and one of the great theologians of the early Church. He presided at the Council of Ephesus in 431, which condemned Nestorianism and affirmed the title Theotokos, Mother of God, for the Blessed Virgin Mary, upholding the unity of Christ as one divine person. His extensive biblical commentaries and doctrinal works earned him the title Doctor of the Church in 1882.
