Life

Born in Caleruega, Spain, around 1170, Dominic de Guzman founded the Order of Preachers, the Dominicans, devoted to preaching, teaching, and countering heresy through study and persuasion. He died at Bologna in 1221 and is traditionally credited with spreading the Rosary. Patron of astronomers, his August 8 memorial celebrates a life given to the preached Word.
