Life
Irenaeus, born in Greek Asia Minor around 130, was Bishop of Lyons in Gaul and a Doctor of the Church whose treatise Against Heresies refuted Gnosticism and set out the apostolic tradition. A disciple of Polycarp, who had known the apostle John, he forms a vital link between the apostolic and patristic eras. He is honored on June 28.
