Life
John Leonardi (1541-1609) trained as a pharmacist in Lucca, Italy, before being ordained a priest. He founded the Clerks Regular of the Mother of God and worked zealously for Church reform after the Council of Trent. His efforts to train missionaries helped lay the groundwork for the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith. He is the patron saint of pharmacists.
