Life

John of Capistrano (1386-1456) was an Italian lawyer who became a Franciscan friar and one of the most renowned preachers of his age, drawing vast crowds across Europe. At the age of seventy he helped rally the Christian defenders of Belgrade against the Ottoman siege of 1456. He is the patron saint of military chaplains.
