Life
Karol Wojtyla (1920-2005) was elected Pope John Paul II in 1978, the first Polish pope, and served for nearly 27 years. He played a significant role in the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe, traveled to more than 120 countries, founded World Youth Day, and produced voluminous theological writings on faith, the family, and human dignity. He was canonized by Pope Francis in 2014.
