Life
Angelo Roncalli (1881-1963) was elected Pope John XXIII in 1958 and surprised the world by convening the Second Vatican Council in 1962, which renewed the life of the Church. Known as the Good Pope, he was beloved for his warmth, humor, and pastoral heart, and his encyclical Pacem in Terris addressed peace among all nations. He was canonized in 2014.
