Life
Marianne Cope (1838-1918) was a German-born Franciscan sister of Syracuse, New York, who led hospitals before answering a call to Hawaii in 1883. For over thirty years she cared for patients with leprosy, continuing the work of Saint Damien of Molokai and serving the exiles of Kalaupapa until her death. She was canonized in 2012 and is a patron of lepers and outcasts.
