Life
Romuald was a monk from Ravenna who, after witnessing his father kill a man in a duel, entered monastic life in penance. He spent decades traveling through Italy, founding and reforming monasteries and hermitages in pursuit of a stricter solitary life. Around 1012 he established Camaldoli in Tuscany, cradle of the Camaldolese order, which joined the hermit's solitude to life in community. He died in 1027.
