Brothers from Thessalonica, Cyril and Methodius evangelized the Slavic peoples of Great Moravia in the ninth century. To render Scripture and the liturgy into Slavonic they devised the Glagolitic alphabet, forerunner of Cyrillic, earning the title Apostles to the Slavs. Proclaimed co-patrons of Europe, they are honored together each February 14 for uniting faith and culture.
