Life
Paul Miki was a Japanese Jesuit seminarian who, with twenty-five companions, was crucified at Nagasaki in 1597 during a persecution of Christians. Preaching forgiveness from his cross, he became, with the others, among the first martyrs of the Far East to be canonized. These twenty-six martyrs are honored as patrons of Japan.
