Life

The Annunciation of the Lord, celebrated nine months before Christmas, commemorates the angel Gabriel's announcement to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and bear the Son of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary's free assent, her fiat recorded in the Gospel of Luke, marks the moment of the Incarnation, when the Word became flesh. It is observed as a solemnity in the Roman calendar.
