Life
Katharine Drexel (1858-1955) was a Philadelphia heiress who gave away her family fortune to found the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, dedicated to serving Native Americans and African Americans. She established schools across the United States, including Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000.
