Life
Januarius was Bishop of Benevento, martyred around the year 305 during the persecution of Diocletian. He is famous for the relic of his blood preserved in the cathedral of Naples, which is reported to liquefy several times each year. He is venerated as the principal patron of Naples and is also invoked as a patron of blood banks.
