Life
Jerome was a Dalmatian-born priest, scholar, and Doctor of the Church who settled in Bethlehem and devoted himself to sacred learning. From the original Hebrew and Greek he translated the Bible into Latin, the Vulgate, which remained the Church's standard text for over a millennium. Known for his fiery temperament, he is patron of librarians and translators, honored September 30.
