Life

Patrick was a fifth-century Briton who was captured by Irish raiders as a youth and enslaved for six years as a shepherd. After escaping, he experienced a call to return to Ireland as a missionary bishop, and his preaching is credited with converting the Irish nation to Christianity. His Confession survives as a rare firsthand account of his life, and he is the patron saint of Ireland.
